I work in an advertising agency and while I love what I do, the agency itself is really bad. I have acquaintances in other agencies in town. What's the best way to drop the hint that I'm looking to move to another agency, without risking my current job?

There is one agency in particluar I'm interested in, and I see the Senior Creative Director on occasion (we went to school together.) Once in a while we have lunch or coffee.

You just have to come right out and say that you feel that you have gone about as far as you can in your present job and are really interested in some new challenges. Ask if she knows of any other agencies that might have openings that you would qualify for. Make sure that they know that you are telling them this in confidence and that you believe that they would never do anything that might affect your current job.

If you went to school with him, maybe you should talk to him about it and see if he has any leads for you. Chances are if you're good at what you do, you'll find something before you have to risk discovery.
