Depends on the reason. My dad works in a hospital and drinks non-alcoholic beer when he's on call as he never knows if and when he'll be called back in. He likes the taste of beer but obviously drinking and driving/working is not going to go down too well. Also, I guess some people who are allergic to alcohol would drink it if they like the taste of beer.

I often drink alcohol free beer. I love the taste of beer but dont like the hangovers on a week day. My favourites are Becks and Eirdinger(probably the wrong spelling)

No, some people just like the taste of beer
although most no alcoholic beers taste watered down.
Some people who have drank all their life, and for a medical reason cannot have alcohol, but would still like drinking it, or socializing in a bar, thats what they drink.

It's not odd to drink what you like.
I am a beer drinker, but I drink lightly. I don't particularly like the taste of the alcohol-free stuff. But, the one situation in which I sometimes drink it is when I am eating really spicy food. The spice covers up the deficiency in taste (if the beer is really cold!) , and I can drink lots of it to cool off my tongue without getting drunk.
I don't like to have sweet drinks like Coca Cola with dinner, but I do like carbonation, so I prefer the non-alcholic beer in that situation.

I am a recovering alcoholic (One year) so I can't drink any alcohol at all. I tried alcohol free beer many years ago and didn't like it, but what the hell if you like it, it's not odd.

No - it's the same as drinking decaf coffee. Most people drink alcohol free beer or decaf coffee because they like the taste of the drinks but do not want the effects of them.

Sometimes it's necessary, but it's never pleasant. The stuff has no taste, no body and it's a fine diuretic so you're never out of the loo. BUT if you aren't allowed alcohol as Designated driver or for medical reasons then it's still a hell of a lot more interesting than orange juice!

no not at all, in Japan it is common culture for familys to go out drinking and if a person does not want to consume alcohol they take non alcoholic bear, also they give it to their children to encourage the traditional celebration without making their kids drunk!
this is also common in Ireland and in a lot of places over the world to give kids fake wine like "sleur"
hope this helps :)
