house, 5 hours away was when she discovered the mistake. The generic does not work as well, and upon calling the pharmacy, she was informed she was to bring back the entire # of pills distributed. In the meantime, better than suffering, she had taken 1. Is this ethical? She could have touched them, ect.........it makes me question the fact if they redistribute them, ...... it just seems wrong and gross. I believe they should be flushed, and given the correct medication. Later she finds out, they have to order "Brand Name", and they will not be available til next Wed. Seeing she is out of town without computer access, she requested I ask Yahoo Answers . Seeing I have a child who takes medication regurarly for a health condition,......I'm hoping a pharmacist, or well informed person can help with this disturbing issues.
It seems no different than exchangng "french fries at Burger King, for the onion rings you ordered".

The medication is thrown away when that happens. One should never, never flush medications down the toilet. Researchers have found measureable levels of Lipitor in the sewer.
There are some brands which are not commonly dispensed, and some brands are just rare to find. Some brands are no longer being made, like brand hydrochlorothiazide.
