Why is it that kids with only video game experience come on to answer firearms questions like they're an expert because they're on level 10 of some video game, then get bent all out of shape when someone corrects them? Since when does playing halo make anyone a firearms expert?

My opinion (for what it's worth) is that kids now a days spend so much time on videos etc that they feel this is reality. I mean, they don't get out in the field to hunt the way we did when we were young. They lack real world experience. It's not their fault, I blame the parents that are too busy, or too lazy to spend quality time with their kids, and the liberal teachers and politicians that tell them guns are evil, free thought is wrong, you must conform and all that other bull cr%^
When I was younger, we never stayed indoors. We were gone all day everyday after school and chores. We started "hunting" with home made bow and arrows, moved on to a BB gun, then a single shot 22 rifle and .22 shorts. And .22 lr when we could scrounge up the unheard of price of twenty five cents for a box of 50. We were outside playing "army man" or cowboys and indians. We didn't give a rats A$% about political correctness and you would have gotten a punch in the nose if you tried to interfere with our playing.
My kids learned VERY early about firearms. They each began following me around in the field hunting when they were 5. At age 8, each of them got a single shot .22 rifle and learned safe gun handling and how to shoot right. I have pictures of them helping skin out deer and blackbear in preporation for butchering and going on the table, when they were 7 and 8 years old.
Today, it's all about electronic toys, video games, IPOD's, $200 running shoes (that they never run in),rice burner cars with megaphone exhausts, loud thumping music and no concept of the real world. What scares me the most, is seeing that they can't spell, don't know squat about not getting pregnant, and will one day lead this country. If there is any country left for them to run.
OK, I'm off my soap box. Tag, your it.

Since when does playing halo make anyone a firearms expert?

It Dosent!!!!!! You are right!!!!! My son plays those shooter games 24/7 has for the last couple years, he is a straight A student so I let him play his games, he is a good kid, anyway he turned 17 so I took him to the range, Knob Creek , for his 17th birthday, told him to pick out whatever he wanted to rent for the day and we would have some fun..... he picked an AR-15..... he could not load the magazine, insert it into the weapon or charge the weapon.....

I guess they dont teach that in video games, I coudnt believe it, I said you play those games all the time.... he just stared at me..... well he know like the real thing more, we go every weekend firing all my rifles and trying all kinds of others....

my point, your not an expert just by playing video games, you dont know anything in fact......

People with no real experience have no way of knowing they don't know anything.

With 40 years of shooting and 20 firearms of my own I have at least a little experience.

There should be moderation, basically. People who consistently answer well would get the ability to vote bad answers out of the gene pool as it were. Without that this is not a source of authoritative answers.

While I agree that this isprobably more an opinion than a question, it is also a VERY valid observation.

I see it in the "Aviation" section as well . . . "I can't get my Skymuncher 3000 to fly inverted in the Humongus Tunnel 'O Zombie Doom on my Super Macho Stud Pilot video game".

I'm thinking these questions would be more appropriate in the video games section.

I feel the same way about Airsoft questions here. If you like Airsoft, cool, that's your thing. Airsoft is NOT hunting.

Not that I have an opinion about it . . . .

It doesn't make them "experts" at anything. I think it makes them look COOL to their friends, nothing more, and legends in their own minds. They only THINK they are giving "facts" as they know them. I get angry thinking about the parents that use video games like Grand Theft Auto/San Adrea's (The video that STARTED this whole trend)...as a substitute baby sitter for their kids instead of raising them with some values and positive role models other than 50 Cent...Makes me want to hurl....Made worse by a percentage of Air-soft junkies asking questions about if it will HURT if they shoot each other,or how far will a BB or Pellet penetrate into your skin and my all time favorite "What's the best SNIPER Rifle?" Followed by "How Do I make a Silencer?"

I wish I knew the solution Snapper, but I don't ..Yahoo doesn't ever seem to care that underage kids are on their site constantly asking and answering questions. They just ignore it and let it go on....Pretty sad...It doesn't look like it will get any better...

BOKER...Thanks BUD, I wouldn't want you crapping in MY flower beds, so I know what I would do!....lol

lol it doesn't make em a firearms expert. It's not true either that it's only them in this category answering questions. Others like me do too. I bet Halo nuts are sad to find out when on here that the SMG's, battle rife, and alien guns really don't exist lol.

Yes, that's a pet peeve of mine too. Also, the people who automatically answer: ".50 Caliber BMG" to every question anyone asks about shooting big/dangerous game. Groan! That is sooo cheesey! The big fifty isn't even a hunting rifle!

Best.

Kids generally have a lot of free time as that they don't work regular jobs like the rest of us. This allows them to play video games to get their bogus knowledge and post their faulty answers.

Of course you're right, but I say let the kids play. They could be doing something worse, and it's annoying but harmless. I don't see it as all that much worse, either, than people who've only hunted with one or two calibers but recommend that one as the perfect choice.

For the same reason kids exaggerate and generally lie about everything else. To feel important about themselves, to gain some self respect, to gain the respect of their peers. All are disingenuous reasons, but the kids seem to think they're valid.
