There are lots of speakers that are worth 2 grand. There are a lot more that aren't!

The B+Ws are a very popular choice, but if you are in the market, make sure that you listen to something else to compare. At this price range you have lots of choices, there are lots of tradeoffs to be made when designing loudspeakers, so find a speaker where the choices made by the designer match your personal priorities. This should be evident very quickly - B+W is sold by a lot of dealers - a good one should have a couple of other options in the same price range - listen to those and one should stand out right away as a better match for you!

Yeah.Good things come in big packages. But you need to have a equally powerful amplifier to drive them, which again would cost you more. The only way you can enjoy such thing at low cost is by "do it yourself" Electricals and Electronics was never my cup of tea.But my luv for music made me take up electronics as hobby. After three or four small projects,I was on my way to designing my first powerful amplifier. With present day availability of Integrated Chips (IC) I first constructed a STK-439 amplifier, the total construction cost works out to just a little over $250 (minus speakers) This amplifier in market was costing more then $2000-$2500.Thereafter I went on to construct a more powerful MOSFET amplifier. The purpose of my telling is if you have the will go ahead. Its never too late.

B&W makes some really great speakers. My uncle has two floor standing B&W speakers with his home theatre setup, as well as a B&W Subwoofer (with Rogers speakers for the surrounds) and the sound is fantastic. Definitely worth what he paid for them.

yes B&W's are one of the best professional speakers you can buy. They sound amazing and are pretty much at the top of the food chain when it comes to loud speakers.
