I want to know if they want to keep me or not. I have 4 more months till the end of my contract. Should I wait untill they open this topic? Should I open it? When would be a good time to do so?

Personally, I would start moving towards finding an answer now. If you make a discreet approach towards the Company you will sense hopefully , some reaction. This will put you at ease, one way or the other, to make plans for the Future.

Yes, you can approach your employer about a contract extension anytime, but it's the manager often can't give you an honest answer because it usually comes down to budget decisions. And those are always put off until the last minute. You can always ask about how he/she feels about your performance. in most cases, you won't know until a few weeks before your current contract is about to end. Yes, it's nerve-racking but that's often how life is on contract.

I think I would ask if they hire contract workers, and also find out how much it would cost them to hire you if you are working through another company.

I work contract primarily, and employers have told me it would cost them too much to hire me because the company i work through charges too much as a finders fee.

My last contract job would have cost the company $4,000.00 to hire me direct so they did not even try to pursue it.

If you think the job is worth it, I would bring up questions to your direct superior to find out what you can do to maybe ease the agony of finding out too late.

Good Luck

They will talk to you if they want to keep you. Do happen to let them know you love working there. They may never hire contract workers because they would have to pay more to hire someone.
