usually you have a wedding program for the actual ceremony not for the reception.. you dj usually sets the progression of the reception program and events. You just need to get with him....and discuss what things you want done.. and what things u dont want done. (bride, and groom dance.,... the pay dance where people pay a dollar to dance with the bride or groom... the cake cutting... taking off and throwing of the bouquet and garter. and the putting the garter on the lady that caught the bouquet... that's stuff is all up to you...

Do you actually plan on having a program? Usually people just "play it by ear"...

But typically, the guests arrive... then the wedding party makes their entrance

Then the bride and groom are announced as they enter (of course the last ones to enter)

If it is a sit-down dinner, the bride and groom will be served first, then the family and party, then the rest of the guests. If its a "finger food" kind of thing then people will just grab as they go, but the bride and groom should start first.

Once people get kinda settled in, you should go ahead and do the first dance in order to open up the dance floor (So first dance, father daughter dance, mother son dance, any other specialty dance) then the floor can be open for people to enjoy!

Wait a while and once people have settled down with the food thing, you can do the cake cutting. Usually right after the cake cutting (since guests are already gathered around) you can go ahead and do the toasts (Best Man, then MOH, then anyone else)

Usually those are the only things that are definitely done at receptions. But you kinda go by how guests are doing - if they are getting bored, or still eating, or whatever. If you have a DJ, they usually dont mind making announcements to get peoples attention.

Hope this helps! Good luck and congrats!

Guests show up and find their tables. Bride and groom are announced. Wedding toasts. Dinner. Dances for bride, groom, parents, wedding party. Cutting of cake. Throwing of garter, throwing of bouquet. You can change the order of this if you prefer. With weddings now a days nothing is set in stone.

Generally, and it widely varies by culture, but the reception includes:

-The entrance of the couple "I present to you Mr and Mrs. Smith!"
-Dinner, whether brought to your table or buffet style
-Cutting of the wedding cake
-Bouquet toss
-Garter toss
-Best Man's Speech
-Maid of Honor Speech
-First Dance of the Married Couple
-Daddy-Daughter Dance
-Mother-Son Dance
-May include The Money Dance (you get to dance with the bride of groom, but you have to give them a dollar or so)
-One wedding I attended had a slide show presentation of photos of the couple
-The farewell (can be bird seed, bubbles, releasing birds, etc.)

In whatever order you choose, with whatever else you want, including more or excluding any of the above

It's up to each coulple as to what they want to do. There's no set schedule that everyone has to follow.
