I was thinking about buying either a handgun or a 22. rifle.

Under Federal law........ the minimum age to purchase a Rifle OR Shotgun is 18 years of age. To purchase a Handgun you must be a minimum of 21 years of age. In some states you must be 21 to purchase handgun ammunition. (In regards to the ammunition part) I would suggest you call your local gun shop or the local Police or Sheriff's department to be informed as to what the situation is in New Hampshire.....Good Luck

For a rifle (regardless of caliber), 18. For a handgun (regardless of caliber), 21.

These ages apply to FIREARMS. This is a federal law.
