The holy spirit is nothing, if not imaginary. It doesn't hang out by itself, it needs a human mind and body to do the work, before it even exists.
As for convincing someone it's all in their imagination, that's quite cruel to try to do, without something to replace it,

Then they would be delusional, or lying. But there are those who are not lying, or delusional about that. God fulfills His promises, and Jesus promised the Holy Spirit in John 15 and 16. He delivered on His promise to me. And there are many others that He fulfilled that promise to.
