I have almost 1000 slides that I would like to save in DVD form for my children.

We just converted about 500 slides to DVD using a service (28 cents each) using a company we found on eBay. It was worth every penny.

Just make sure you put them in the right order (they give you forms for this purpose). They'll even add music.

And of course the most fun was gathering the family to watch them. Great fun.

Even when the transfer-to-DVD service is on sale you will pay 25 cents per slide so there goes $250. If instead you buy a scanner that will take slides your $99 will get you a high pixel count way to get those slides onto DVDs. Plus you will have the fun of looking at slides as you scan them and can color-correct them before they go onto the DVD.

Just put them on DVD... that would be the easiest.
