first of emo is just a slang word. emotional people have many different reasons for being the way they are. where some do seek attention that is not the case for most some have or have had very tramatic lifes or are going through a rough time. and some just have a chemical imbalancement in their brain like me. most of us dont try to be this way and many dont like being this way but its just they way this messed up world works

Mostly it has to do with emotional*...I don't think they want attention..but are feeling "numb" inside and feel "comfortable for some reason" being 'emo'.

well, i went off for a while when i was an early teen. long before there was the term emo, you know back when echo and the bunnymen made records. after i grew out of it ( thank god) i realized that as much as i verbally stated it was just me expressing myself i realized it was me trying to separate myself from everything i was expected to be.
im glad i did it really because i now have more a sense of who i am.
now if i could get my damn kids out of this phase!

They have emotional issues.
they feel sad and lonely i guess.
Thats why I don't make fun of emo people as most people do cause its wrong .

Usually attention. Or boys. Or attention and boys. I dunno, I find most teenagers go through their emo phase so they can get an emo boyfriend/girlfriend or get attention. Or they can use emo as an excuse for being whiney..

i ask myself the same question whenever i see my friends arm. its usually past history. the worst thing 2 do is have a go at them. be nice to them, and dont put them under stress or pressure and help them slowly to stop. dont give them attention.

they like the style....the life....
and no you dont have to be sad and depressed to be emo....there's a fashion style that goes with it....you can dress that way but not feel "emo"
I'm not emo....but I'm athletic....I CHOSE to be athletic....
its a personal preference.
