one walks on my car almost every night. someone told me to try hanging mothballs in old stockings under the garage & maybe the smell will drive them away. open to any suggestions here..it's been a problem for a while.

A painters plastic tarp is cheap and will cover your car easily.
Fixing the garage sound too much like work.

I'm not unsympathic to your problem, but I have to admit your question made me smile. A cat goes where a cat goes. Short of closing your garage door at night, I don't know what might stop it. If closing the garage is impossible....well, I dunno. I assume (I hope) that you will not try something that will harm the cat. Best of luck, but I don't see much hope until the cat gets tired of hanging out at your place.
Edit: Just came back to see where this question was heading. Read your additional post about living in the country. Are you sure these are cats? Could be raccoons. Still don't have an answer for you, though. But here's your star. You deserve it.

Get a dog.
Only kidding!
A car cover might do the trick, or at least help...
If you catch the cat out on the car you can squirt it with water. If it happens multiple times, they'd get the point.
I've heard of commercial cat repellents like predator urine (coyotes, etc.) you might be able to find that in a gardening section or outdoors supply. I've never actually seen this stuff, though.
They don't like mothballs or cayenne pepper.. mix some of that up in a jar or a sock and put it by your car.

Does the car fit in your garage? if so put it in their. if not buy a tarp and each night if you have time put the tarp over the car. Or put some stuffed dogs on it, i know the stuffed dogs seems a childish idea but i had the same provlem put the stuffed dogs heir and no more cats. After a while i just cleaned out the garage though and put the car in there. good luck

Well here is my suggestion..put down a blanket and then put aluminum foil or coat hangers these items hurt their feet and should help you..you will need to do this all of the time because cats are looking for heat which is comming from your motor..or you can buy a plastic runner with the "spikes" on the back put it on the outer edges of your hood..on top of a blanket the spikes will hurt their paws and they will not stay for long..hope this helps..

Air Rifle! Made me laugh, but seriously...
I have a buddy that uses tinfoil on his couches to keep he pe(s)ts from jumping around.
Try running some foil along the topside of the fenders and roofline (above the doors) to see what happens.
Cats are strange creatures. They probably hate the metal

I even have an identical difficulty. No storage, so my new vehicle is effortless recreation to each cat contained domestically, which is composed of my own. My husband stated getting a vehicle conceal, that's a superb concept different than for while that's raining. Who desires to get soaked attempting to get the element off/on and the place do you place it whilst its moist? can't throw it interior the vehicle dripping moist. in case you wax the vehicle and make it slick, the cat will attempt to hold on via digging in with their claws, leaving scratches rather of pawprints. The hood of the vehicle I traded in replaced into lined with cat scratches. somebody instructed me to establish mouse traps everywhere in the hood, yet what if between the cats gets a foot caught? i only can't try this. i choose them off the vehicle, yet no longer harm them. wager i will probable decide on the conceal, even no count if that's a soreness interior the a ss.

you could get a motion sensor alarm which would go off when they jumped on it... howerver, you might not get much sleep LOL, but really it's difficult to stop a cat... consider a car cover if the prints really bug you... or an enclosed garage that you can shut the door....

i don't know if you keep your car in the garage or not. if you have a garage just simply put the car in the garage where there is no cats and make sure you close the door. ha! ha!

Get a Dog, a Kennel and leash near that can just reach the cars but not allow him on them to scratch them and of course safe and warm in a doggy house and that will keep cats off your car!!! he will scare them all away LOL.
just dont let him or her loose on the cats or they will probably kill them. No need for that, just scare them OR WATER cats HATE WATER. Get a huge house garden hose or super soaker and next you see them nail em with it!!
