When I was very young my family and I would stay up quite late at night on Christmas eve to hear the Morman chair preform the Messiah by G.F. Handel as these were the only ones to my knowledge that was doing this very inspirational piece at that time. So I now find it hard to understand why some say in this presidential politics time that these people are not christians. So why are some saying these people are not christians

Some people who consider themselves christian have very strict, dogmatic definitions of what they believe and exclude anyone who varies from their definition. Others have broader definitions of Christianity which allows them to accept others who might disagree with them on the details.

We are very Christian. We don't believe God had sex with Mary!!! That is a horrible thought! I don't know where people get this stuff! We do believe in Christ as our savior. That He atoned for our sins, died on the cross and was resurrected the third day. We do believe that it is through Christ we gain salvation. We do believe in being saved by grace, but we believe that we have to follow the commandments, repent continually, and keep promises made to God. After all this, grace kicks in. You can't expect God to give you something for nothing.

One of the other things they say is that we aren't Christian because we don't believe in the trinity. There are other sects of Christianity that aren't trinitarian, but yet are still considered Christian, so I don't know how that argument holds water.

We don't believe Christ was an angle. We believe Christ and Lucifer were spirit brothers. God created them both, making them brothers by default. They both have the same spiritual Father, so that is what is meant by that.

We don't add or take away from the bible. We believe the bible, and we study the bible.

Here is a website for you. It may answer this better for you.
By the way, I love MoTab too!!!! Have many of their cd's and we listen to them frequently.

It doesn't matter. We have a handful of doctrines that people think contradict the new testament. The truth is, mainstream Christianity contradicts the old testament. We simply have a different interpretation on a few things in the bible. We do believe in Jesus Christ as our saviour. The name of our church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

I personally don't care what others say. Most of the people who say we're not Christian don't act like Christians themselves.

EDIT: The below poster is wrong. We do not believe Jesus is an angel. He is the only begotten son of Heavenly Father.

The LDS church (which is organized after the church which Christ set up in his day: prophets, apostles etc.) holds a general conference twice a year, which is broadcast to many meeting houses around the world and on many local radio stations in various parts of the world. The talk at the link below, was given by one of the apostles during this most recent conference, it should address your questions.

I dont think anyone is saying Mormons dont believe in Christ and consider themselves Christians. But they do have some silly beliefs that even make your mainstream Christians look logical..for instance Jesus came to North America, Joseph Smith found some golden tablets that were etched with the word of god..etc..etc... do some research..

because the LDS know the name of the man that started their religion and most other religions don't remember or never knew the name of whom founded their religion.
ask other religions who founded their religious faith and
the doctrine's that they go by if they say Jesus as most of them will. then they have not studied the history of their faith.
I am most definitely not LDS but I can tell you that they are as Christian as any other Christian religion

Mormons do not teach what the bible teaches about Christianity.

Mormon leaders have taught that Jesus’ incarnation was the result of a physical relationship between God the Father and Mary. They believe Jesus is a God, but that any human can also become a god. Christians historically have taught that God is Triune and that He exists eternally as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). No one can achieve the status of God, only He is holy (1 Samuel 2:2).

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is one of the most beautiful choirs around, and their cathedral is not only beautiful, but designed to take full advantage of the accoustics.

However, the mormon DOCTRINE is not very Biblical, even though the mormon church wants to LOOK and SOUND biblical.

For instance (just one of many, but it should only require one example to prove the point) - for instance, it is taught that God was once a man and "evolved" into Godhood an eternity ago by obeying the mormon precepts. The specific quote, which is in their own doctrines states, "What man is, God once was. What God is, man can become."

They reinterpret the Scripture that says that God was from eternity to eternity, to mean that God existed only from the beginning of THIS eternity, to the beginning of the NEXT eternity. (Like saying, "from here to here"). In fact, one mormon elder, holding his hands out (like someone measuring a fish), told me point blank that God has existed only from eternity (as he waved one hand), to eternity (as he waved the other hand).

Furthermore, they reinterpret the text in Isaiah that says that God is the first and the last, et cetera, then the text in Revelations that says that JESUS is the first and the last, et cetera, to mean that God is THIS first and last, and Jesus is the SECOND (or OTHER) first and last, as though you can have more than one FIRST, and more than one LAST!!!)

Again, a mormon elder told me these things!!! So, this isn't something I'm just making up!!!

Of course, these are only two, and I COULD go on, talking about who Jesus really is, the difference between "Jehovah" and "Elohim", being two separate and distinct people, and not the one God, or the relationship between Jesus and satan, being spiritual brothers, both offspring of "Jehovah", or I could talk about the physical relationship between God and Mary, one of God's many wives before she came to earth, to be able to be honored to be the mother of one of their children (Jesus) in this PHYSICAL world, as they already were the mother and father of Jesus in the SPIRITUAL world, but it gets so convoluted that even science fiction can't keep up with all the twists and the turns just to make the Scriptures "fit" with their belief system.

This is fact about mormon theology and doctrine. I haven't made anything up or take anything out of the context in which it was written. It is all available in their own doctrines and stuff.

Well, for starters, they believe Jesus and satan are brothers. They do not believe in the need for salvation through God's ONLY begotten Son, Jesus. Jesus was born of a virgin, He took the sins of the whole world on Himself on the cross, He died on the cross, paying the price for ALL our sins. On the third day He rose again, alive and having complete victory over death and hell. Now through asking Him for forgiveness of your sins, and asking Him into your heart (believing He is who He says He is) then your sins will be forgiven abd you will be spending an eternity in heaven instead of hell. Hell is real and Jesus and His free gift of salvation is the only way out. Jesus really loves you. He would have suffered onthat cross for only one person if needed, but He did it for the whole world. You can not earn your way into heaven, it is just simply a free gift that you have to ask for. There is no other Jesus than the only begotten Son of the Father in heaven. By Him all people can enter heaven, without Him they must spend the eternity in hell because they chose not to receive Him.
This will help you, please read it. I care where you spend eternity, which is a very long time.

Mormons are not Christians. That is sad that so many people are deceived into rejecting the real Jesus as the one and only son of God and Savior. The consequences are very real and eternal and there are no second chances!
