Abduction will help tone the muscles on the outside of the leg and adduction will help tone muscles on the inside of the leg; but if fat loss is your goal, you need to be performing all over cardiovascular exercise. Fat and muscle are different types of tissue. Since fat is primarily an engergy storage system, you need to "burn down" this system before you start loosing fat. Single, focal, leg strengthening exercises will not do this. Rather, it takes prolonged exercise such as brisk walking, jogging, swimming etc, working at at least 55% of your maximum heart rate for at least 40 minutes at a time. Even then, we can only HOPE our body removes the fat from the place we wish, but since fat is not a muscle, we are not able to "target" certain areas. This also needs to be supported by a healthy diet.

I highly encourage you to continue to work hip ABD and hip ADD, to improve your overall muscle tone and to prevent injury from other activities, but you really do need to be supplementing your exercise with prolonged "cardiovascular" types of activities.

yes it will help, but ultimately the diet that you follow will determine the rate of fat loss and how quickly you see the visual results of exercise on your body.

exercise will help to burn intramuscular fat, found in skeletal muscle (like the fat that you see in a steak, etc.). only by decreasing the body fat percentage will the fat under the skin, the subcutaneous fat be decreased.
