I'm a 17 year old guy and I keep having this same dream every few weeks. I dream theres just darkness everywhere. theres no floor or ceiling or anything. theres just this endless set of spiraling stairs and a very faint light at the top. I dream that im climbing up the stairs but then about half way, the staircase breaks since each of the steps break apart and fly off into random directions and I start falling. as soon as I fall in the dream, I wake up in fear and I literally jump out of bed.
I have this dream maybe every 10-15 days. the thing is this dream is so vivid its unimaginable. I have vivid dreams all of the time, but this dream is just so clear and lifelike. I even remember the smell of the place in the dream. What the hell does it mean? I'm so confused.

This is a fairly simple dream to resolve as it seems like it's bothering you a bit.
The light that you can't reach is a goal or aspiration that you strive for.
it could be you didn't get the team captain position, or you want straight A grades, you want to get into a specific college even something as simple as finishing reading an important book.
The problem is that something or somebody is holding you back from doing this. maybe somebody was better on the team, or your family can't afford to send you to the college you want, etc etc.
You need to find what this goal is, find out what's holding you back.. and either start working to achieve it or come to terms with it. this is how to resolve this reoccuring dream

Ah, the recurring dream! Don't stress - everyone has them. I'm not a professional psychiatrist or anything like that, but I've had my share of recurring dreams and have found that it's actually your subconcious trying to work out a problem while you sleep.
Ever study really hard only to find yourself dreaming about chemistry equations? Ever go to bed after playing a video game only to dream that you're in the game? This is your subconcious trying to work out the hard parts.
It's possible that you're at a point in your life where you need to make some difficult decisions that are going to effect you long-term; at 17, I can imagine everything you must be dealing with between high school graduation, picking a college, financing your education, etc. It could be that right now you feel "stuck" or that you're "aren't getting anywhere" - hence the recurring dream - and the dream is going to continue until you find a way to resolve the problem that is taking place in your waking life or finally make your decisions.
I'd like to suggest keeping a journal; each night before you go to bed, quickly write down your thoughts, feelings, events of the day, anything you want. Do this for a few weeks and then go back and read what you've written down. You can then make a list or highlight the recurring problems, feelings or thoughts. This might help you figure out what it is your subconsious is struggling to resolve. It might take a few months to piece together what the problem might be but once you begin to take action, the dreams will occur less often until they're gone for good.
As an added benefit, you'll be much happier and satisfied in your waking life - which is what your dream was trying to do for you all along.
Good luck!

Are you a Christian? If not, I would say that you are being told to get to that light or you're going to be in darkness forever.
If we take out the "God" part, I would think that it means you think that you are in over your head and afraid of failure before you reach the end. You feel you're not getting any support to reach your goals. I would picture it in my mind, lots of times before the next dream, picture a complete staircase, a white one in the light and it goes all the way to the top. Just picture this in your mind every time you think about it. Maybe next time you have the dream, you can change the setting, and make it to the top.
I'm not a dream interpreter.

>> Could be you have unconscious fears that you won't reach your goals ~ The goals being the light at the top of the stairs ~ at 17, I guess you still have a way to go before reaching these goals. Maybe something is holding you back from progressing at the moment ~ & causing you to 'fall' short of what it is you want from life.
Work out what this could be & you will eventually climb those stairs all the way to the top.
Hope this helps. Ciao!

This dream follows the general "up" is good, "down" not so good rule, here is an additional guide; to fall upstairs augurs well for love affairs, and to fall as opposed to stumble downstairs is a warning to be less controversial in your views. The stairs being in limbo means nothing, the smell is interesting it is one you will smell again. Falling; your in fear of loosing your status, you did not mention that you hit the ground so that is good. Generally good, having to do with your prominence in the sexual arena.

Do you sleep with your head under the covers? If so then the air is warming up under the covers and your body is trying to get your head out of the covers. Then you wake up real fast coming out from under the covers.
