It's different from most situations involving an ex, a new love and children. In some people's eyes it is weird...to me I envy it. I do NOT like the mother of my mans daughter. I tolerate her but by no means would i call her a friend.
If you truly value her as a friend...then involver her in the wedding. I think it is great that women and men can move beyond their past and make the life they currently have a happy and healthy one for all parties involved.
Good for you and your families..

Dear Leticia,
It is not weird, it's stupid. How can you ask your future husbands ex-wife to stand up for you. Do you understand the feelings that will come out at the time of your wedding. Ex or no-Ex, every couple has their good time and bad times worth of memories, and weddings are the times when the good times just happen to pop-up in ones mind. Don't curse yourself by doing this. After that honey it is your decision and you know best. Don't open up can's of worms that you don't need. Good Luck.

Not if you all get along - however I would ask both your fiance and his ex wife separately and privately to be absolutely honest about their feelings and if either has hesitations I would find an alternative and just let it go.

Not weird, nuts! With that many weddings under your bed already, why not skip your friend on this wedding and let her "stand up" at your next one?
Out of curiosity, does "stand up" mean bridesmaid, maid of honor, witness or what?

well just be careful cause they may be still having sex so it is hard to trust the ex's but, if you can trust and feel OK walking in on them without killing them (if,)they do get in bed together then keep it this way but, remember they did it once they may do it again.
sometimes it is best to keep her your best friend and not let them two be friends at all cause it will keep them from falling in love again. just a thought....good luck...PS it is your wedding do as you feel cause it don't matter what anyone else thinks......

Ask her if that's what you want. This is you and your fiance's wedding. If both him and her are okay with this and you all get along like you say you do, I see no problem with it. Congrats!

It is unusal, but it is also great for the kids. If she is truly your best friend, by all means, ask her to stand up with you and share in the happiness.
