There will be a number within a triangle on the bottom of every plastic bottle especially on drinking mineral water bottle. It has been said that the bottle with number less than 5 is dangerous to health as the bottle emits chemicals to the water which leads to cancer when it is used more than 1 time for drinking. Till now I have never seen the bottle with at least number 3. So can anyone tell where can we get such drinking bottles where the number is equal or greater than 5.

These pet bottles contains potentially a carcinogenic element(called as diethylhydroxylamine or DEHA) which are harmful and can leach into our body when used for long terms(source:http://www.care2.com/greenliving/kitchen-plastic-easy-greening.html).
Here we get all the information about the plastic containers. But still iam confused with over information.
Again one more source http://mindchimes.net/2007/04/07/are-pet-bottles-hazardous-to-health/
says it's not harmful.
Right now I am convinced to some extent that PET bottles are not harmful under long term usage.
Can anyone conclude this...thanks

I have never ever heard that before and I don't believe that it is true. My bottle of water have a 1 in the triangle. I don't know what it means, but I know it doesn't mean that it has high levels of chemicals in it that will cause cancer....

That is a myth.. All bottles that are food grade are required by health standards to be safe. By safe I mean the plastic has to meet certain standards to be used for anything that will be consumed.

The number 7 is "other" plastic. Do you consider that safer than PETE or HDPE?

That's a myth. Drink your water and don't worry about it.
