I heard that Komen grants some of its funds to planned parenthood and stem cell research. Is this true? When these planned parenthood centers get their grants from Komen, do they have to use all the money on breast cancer awareness and treatment, or can they do whatever they want with it as long as some of the money goes to breast cancer awareness, cure finding, and treatment? Is there a way to donate to Komen, and ensure the funds only go to breast cancer awareness, treatment, and cure? If you are pro-life, would you reconsider purchasing pink ribbon items because of where some of that money is going, even though it is helping find a cure for breast cancer?

I do realize pp does those services, and I do appreciate that. My concern is, is funding granted to pp from Komen used ONLY for breast cancer awareness, treatment, and cure finding, or are they also using it to fund abortions?

When a person buys any of the pink ribbon items to raise funds, I think they typically think the money will fund the search for the cure, for treatment of those who have breast cancer, and to inform women on how to detect and find help in regards to breast cancer, not the killing of unborn children.

If an organization is saying the money is for funding the cure, then great, but if it is also funding other things too, then I think it should be stated so, so consumers have more control over where there money is going.

I had previously been unaware of the connection between the two - I guess it does explain the breast cancer research advocates' reluctance to warn women that having an abortion increases their chances of getting breast cancer. That's too bad.

The referenced article says Komen CAN supply to associate systems and lists part a dozen or so....it does now not point out Planned Parenthood. Anyone have information to help this declare?? EDIT: Further studying of the thing does actually exhibit that Komen supplies monies to Planned Parenthood facilities around the country. There you move. The reply is Yes!! Komen is helping fund Planned Parenthood. Edit two: Thanks for the data. My workplace helps Komen a LOT and I used to be unaware in their deliberate parenthood connection. Pretty sneaky of them.

You do realize that PP does breast cancer screenings, correct? And yearly exams, and BC, and all the good things that prevent unwanted pregnancies for those who don't have medical insurance and wouldn't be able to afford it any other way, correct? And not all PP branches perform abortions either. I hope no woman you know ever misses early detection of breast cancer because she couldn't afford it and PP's funding got pulled and she didn't qualify because they had to raise their income standards.
