I am 37 yrs old and 6'3". I know nothing about what type of bow to get. There is a Cabella's, Bass Pro Shop and Dick's sports close to me. I will use this bow for lots of practice and eventual hunting deer, turkey and possibly much larger game. I have become addicted to the Outdoor Channel watching big game bow hunting and mess around with my neighbors bow in the backyard. I want to begin seriously learning and hunting soon. I assume there are bows that will work for all sizes of game. I dont know what brand, style or anything else to get. I know I could spend a ton on a state of the art bow. I want to get a nice bow that can do it all but at the most reasonable price so, I dont want to get the best, most expensive bow. Something reasonable. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Nearly any bow made in the last 10 years will work fine. I've been bow hunting for a long time, and have never paid more than $100.00 for a bow. Just go to a shop that sells bows, and they'll probably have a rack of used bows. You can try numerous bows, without spending a dime. They usually come with sights, arrow rest, and even a quiver. I've gotten 8 racked bucks, and numerous does without spending a lot. I do recommend spending a little for a mechanical release. You might try to find a target shooting league, or a sportsman club in your area, or get advice from a friend. Good luck. By the way- I had venison soup last night.

If there happens to be a reputable bow shop in your town, I would suggest you go try several different brands.

Martin, Hoyt and Mattews are all good brands. They are also on the expensive side. Pse is a brand sold at Walmat, far less expensive. The PSE bows have put just as much meat on the table as any other brand.

You might look into a good used bow. Once you find a brand and model that you like, hit the weekly classifieds to find one at a reduced price.

Your success will have far more to do with your time spend on the range.

Bass Pro Shops and Dick's will try and sell you the most expensive bow they have that is their job.
Go to a local archery shop and see what they have to offer if you talk to the people there and tell them what you are looking for they can steer you in the right direction.
They will be more than willing to let you try out various bows til you find one that fits you well and feels comfortable.

I agree with the Hoyt, I just bought a Hoyt Katera XL, i love it so far, i haven't had it long enough to really give a good review on it.

A buddy of mine bought a Mathews dernalin, i have shot that bow, it is very light and so smooth! i was going to buy one myself but I got a good deal on the Hoyt

But Hoyt or Mathew both make good bows
