its a very funny incident. i was very scared of needles n injections that doctors use.when i was just 8 yr old, my mom took me to doctor for injection. i was not aware of that, but when i came to knew that i started shouting very loudly
it was impossible for doctor to give me injection, so my mom had to clamp her hand on my mouth to smother my screams. she kept her hand tightly pressed on my mouth until doctor was finished with his job.if she wouldnt had covered my mouth, i would have created a scene out there coz i was screaming really hard.this incident really makes me laugh till now

.thank god i didnt had a blocked nose that day.do u think that my mom did the right thing at that moment? n why?

Your mom was wrong. An injection doesn't hurt. Your mother was a bit dramatic.

You have asked this very same question a few times already. Are you "fishing" for different opinions?

I am a nurse, and worked years in pediatric clinic / urgent care. There are procedures that we have to do on patients, and in this case, young patients, that are, let's call it, unpleasant. Yes, younger children do have to be put into a papoose (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papoose) to prevent further injury (if any) to the child, and to everyone around him. If the patient is an older child, I'd explain to him what we're about to do first, and there are times, I hate to say, that a ten y/o will not listen to reasons. And you know, to save his life (for example, he may need to get an IV), things needed to be done and it's painful, and thus he needs to be held down. I have never dealt wtih a parent who refused something like this. Sometimes they're so upset themselves, they leave the room, but I do prefer that they stay with the patient.

You may think it's funny now--but no doubt it was terrifying.

I am now a school nurse (at a college), and I have my teddy bear in my office. Students (we're talking young adults here), do hold on to Boo-boo bear when they get a shot, especially boys. I am not making this up.

So this is probably the 100th answer that you will receive, and I hope you understand. I also am sorry to ask you why you have posted this question repeatedly--but I am sure you wanted to get as many answers as possible. I have to to say that most of them didn't take time to write a real answer--just a few words for two to get their 2 points, so they weren't exactly helpful.

Yes, your mom did the right thing. You were 8 years old, old enough to know how to act and you should have known better. I would have gotten in a lot more trouble than just having her hand over my mouth.

These people who are saying that you mom over reacting are completely ignoring the fact that YOU completely over reacted. Bribes certainly are not the answer either - you act the way you are supposed to simply because that's how you're supposed to. If you don't, you know you'll get in trouble. Bribes solve no problem.

If you couldn't breathe your mom would have noticed in plenty of time to move her hand...you would have been fine nomatter what. also an injection takes a couple of seconds, where as you can hold your breath for a couple of minuts if you had to before you passed out. there are people who have almost drown, and were unable to breathe for over five minuts, and still came out alright with no brain damage or anything. the worst that would have happened is you could have passed out, and she would have removed her hand...you would wake up like nothing happened

Yes she did do the right thing because if you ran off or refused to u may of not ad ur injections done and got ill. maybe she shouldnt of covered ur mouth that made me upset she should of bribed u with a lollipop, sweets or a toy. i remember when i was 3 and i didnt want to have injections but my mum promised me a nice treat afterwards so i had them done and afterwards i got to go to the zoo and get a giraffe backpack and some sweets.

Sure, u were being unreasonable throwing a fit like that. I mean, we all had to get our shots at 5, most of us just bucked up, and took it, maybe shedding a few tears, but we survived

Yes because she is concerned for your well being and doesn't want anything to happen to you. Even If that means you being mad at her for a while. Moms care and know what is best for us wheather we know it or not.
