your breasts are already engorged due to the milk and tender as well. When you got your period before pregnancy your breast would get more tender and sore. You are more in tune with your body now that the milk supply is there and you are nursing. Therefore it is a nature thing that you will have to deal with for awhile to come. Probably even after your stop nursing. But is soooo worth it!

I'm a nursing mom and have the same problems while having my period when the baby first starts sucking it hurts so bad but i learned to deal wit it cause the baby needs to eat. maybe try pumping before your period and feed your breast milk to the baby with a bottle until period is gone or rotate with bottle and breast. i had problems with my daughter taking a bottle she would not take it at all and now she's 17 mo and still on breast. good luck

Actually this is a normal thing when you have your period and if you are nursing then they will hurt worse. I have experianced the same problem.

Just like how your breasts might be tender anyway when your PMSing, the same happens when breast feeding, and since theyre so roughed up anyway they hurt more than usual.

Its normal.
