Your new floor sounds gorgeous, but I can understand why it is making your house feel darker.
If you want to make your room feel lighter stick to pale colors and especially cool colors, which are blues and greens.
Personally, I would go with a very pale blue - I have a pale blue painted kitchen, with 2 walls of chocolate oak cabinets. Pale blue looks absolutely stunning against all woods, especially dark wood. The pale blue I used is from Dulux, called 'First Dawn'. If it feels a bit cold or sterile (it shouldn't against the wood, though) add some accents of a deep vibrant turquoise, or bright red, or a similar tone of dusky/rose pink.
Leave the ceiling white, to help your room feel lighter, and go for uplighters (which light the ceiling) and a big mirror to reflect the light.
You could also try breaking up the expanse of dark floor, with a pale rug, again to keep the light feel in the room.
Good luck with your decorating project.

You could try a nice Oriental rug and go with a color that will go with that. Maybe like an antique white for the trim and a peach or light color for the walls. Dark color will only make the room look more small. Such a dark wood kinda limits what colors you can use for your room. So maybe go to Lowe's or some place like that and get some paint samples, like 10 to 15 that you like and take them home and ask your husband what he thinks of theses. Then let him pick out his top, say 7 of the 10 or 15 you like, then from the 7 he picks you all sit down and come to an agreement as to what color you all will paint the room. That way you all have some input. You both just have to be will ing to give in and agree on something you both can live with. That way one of you will not hate it and the other love it. If you do that it will just cause issues. So let him have a little input and feel like he has some say about what color the room should be. He will also like it because you are wanting his input and advise. =)

It will depend on the size of your living room. I love Rosewood but, it is a dark colored wood. If the room is on the small size, then a color of a pale beige, egg shell ( this color is lighter than an actual egg shell) subtle green ( seafoam ), a color with a pearl like luster ( a subtle pink that has the shine/luster of a peal which has undertones of pale pink) would compliment the room. Hard wood floors always look nice with a nice area rug that will go with your furniture and will distract from the rosewood color. I hope that this helped some. Ruth

The great thing about that color is that it would suit almost every color u could use. I would use a light beige, it goes along with a lot of furniture colors & styles, & add a big mirror on 1 wall, also you could use sheer/voile curtains so the room won't look cramped. If you're going to use the room for more than 1 thing (sitting, dining), try to use area rugs under each of them, it will make the room look like it could fit several things & therefore make it look bigger.
Good luck.

White would positively scream at that dark floor. But you are right about needing a light color.
Try a light sage color, or perhaps a white with just the barest hint of peach or red in it. And consider getting a light-colored area rug, and light furniture or accessories. And see what you can do with lighting.
Good luck!

I think a bold red would go very well with the chocolate floors and brighten up your room.

Persnally I'd go with a light, warm peach. Obviously the white is too stark for the browns.

Ecru, dusty rose, dusky sky blue, peach, or a very light earthy green (more white than green)
