i used to be in the mcjrotc in my high shcool for 3 years and i loved it. im from a military family and my fiancee is about to graduate from the marines. i tried to join the marines but they wouldnt let me becasue of my history of asthma. im in pretty good shape physically but of course my running is a little sucky..fast as hell but cant run for long distance that well. only like a couple miles. i would also prefer to be in a reserve becasue i wantto spend as much time with my baby as possible but if both of us were i nactive duty i dont think we see each other too much. but i could maybe take active if i had too.

I'm going for the army reserves at the moment. I've been told numerous times - tell them what they want to hear.

Sorry, but I don't think there is any place for a soldier with asthma. Everyone needs to complete the same basic training and pass the same physical assessments. Maybe you should try applying for a different department like the army or air force, and simply fail to mention your asthma IF you think you are capable of meeting their standards and won't be posing any risks to others due to your asthma. Think about it, and see if you can improve your running. Also check if those departments have access to your previous application for the Marines. They'll probably ask you if you have ever applied to join another department - just say no. I don't think they are very thorough in doing background checks.
Lying is necessary.

good luck!

My brother is an asthmatic and after ten years his asthma has shown no sign of improving. He has been to several doctors but they didn't help much.

If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.

It depends. Since your condition sounds like it's still bothering you, I doubt you would get in. The only exception would be childhood asthma, where you had it as a kid but but show no symptoms of asthma later on for several years and has not developed any symptoms since the episode years back. If this is you, you can possibly get a waiver if the doctor at MEPS determine that you have not had symptoms and you are pretty much cured for asthma, meaning it won't affect you in the line of duty. Check with your recruiter though.

None. Asthma past age 12 is disqualifying for entry into any branch of the armed forces.

Not the Air Force. I don't think the Army either. Thanks for your willingness to serve, but the reason they don't is if you have problems with this at a bad time, it could put you and your buddies in a very bad situation. Perhaps there are other ways to serve your country besides the military? Good luck

None. The asthma standard applies across the board, all branches, regular, reserve and guard.

It depends on your MOS, the Army is looking for new recruits desperately. Forget about the Marines though.
