That is a GREAT question!!

As you can probably tell from looking around here, there is no "Christian view" on things... The Vatican, the Episcopalians, the Lutherans, the Evangelicals, the Fundamentalists agree on very little. Partially this is because of a difference of beliefs, partially it is because people who hold decidedly non-Christian (or even anti-Christian) views still like to call themselves "Christian" for social (and monetary ) reasons. Bishop Spong and his ilk in the Episcopal Church are a good example of that.

That being said, I don't think Artificial Intelligence is possible, at least not in the Data on Star Trek the Next Gen sense of the word.

Now I have a complete belief that we will, probably within a few decades, be able to create a machine that SIMULATES intelligence... and I believe that when such a machine is built there will be those who claim that it IS intelligent. They will say "People are just meat-bots... this is a machine that does the same thing, only with chips and wires instead of muscle and nerves." They will be wrong. It will be akin to being a young actress co-staring with Paul Newman... he may get up in front of the camera and say "I love you" because it is in the script, and he will make it look very believable... but at the end of the day he is going home with Joanne Woodward.

So even though people may be able to make a very credible simulation of a human, that is all it will ever be... a complex electro-mechanical simulation... not a real person... not the posessor of a soul.

Christians: Is man made intelligence conceivable? * relies upon on the definition for A.I. you're employing. in accordance to the definitions used via pc scientists AI is a actuality magnificent now. Is it conceivable, given sufficient complexity, to create a self-conscious robotic? * Like R2D2? C3PO? Or vast call Trek next technology's information? No. ought to we, theoretically, create a gadget that manifests each and all the indications of unsleeping concept? * Theoretically? definite, the paper can carry something you write on it. * easily? No, i do no longer think of so. What if, interior the destiny, we've been in a position to reconstruct, atom via atom, the layout of a human strategies and abode it in a residing physique? might this "made" human have a soul?

The use of artificial intelligence is an example of good science. Now, if someone tries to claim that "science" shows us that these 'non-living' bots will evolve into living, breathing, reproducing animals or humans... now that would just be silly, wouldn't it?

Generally speaking, you may ask all religions that question. Why only Christians?

A.I. probably is cool, but scary too. Saying that, what would we need humans to, like you and me, if robs with extremely high intelligence were used instead?

I hope you don't think that a Christian would find AI as a threat to their beliefs...if you do, it's pretty faulty reasoning and a lame attempt at bashing.
