You are correct that most things are developed for military reasons, the whole concept of canning was so Napoleon would have a way of transporting decent food for his armies. And of course the Internet was developed by the U.S. military as a way for university researchers to communicate with each other.

But Pizza doesn't really seem like it would be useful for military reasons. It was developed in Italy and the U.S. (Italian immigrants to the U.S.)

Interesting question!

I read somewhere that it was Southern Italy. Poor housewifes made pizzas using all the food they had at their houses but the family hadn't consumed to eat this food stuff before it goes bad.
Pizzas have nothing to do with military forces.
