Sounds great! Hope you have fun building and riding it!

Edit: Nice choice of frame and forks. It'll be a light weight for sure.

That'll be a nice bike! You could save some weight and get better performance if you upgrade the cassette, rear derailleur, and shifters.....possibly the crank. (I'd for sure splurge on a new set of shifters, though....even just the next step up to LX will make a world of difference!) Carbon bits for the cockpit would be the next place to start unless you wanted to drop cash on some high-zoot wheels (personally, I think your wheels are a good choice, just not as light as some.....and you said that was a concern).

I'm a firm believer that overall bike weight doesn't make a bike that much faster for mountain biking (within reason). Tire tread, advanced skills, and good ol' leg muscle are where it's at. :o)

Enjoy building the new ride.....Long Live GT...!!! :o)

a million. i'm a former street and music racer who has recently taken up go us of a mountain cycling. at present I choose mountain cycling to driving on the line for some reasons: a. even although you could extra regularly have minor falls whilst mountain cycling (because of the extra technical terrain and so on), a minimum of you're no longer prone to be hit by a vehicle, bus or truck - which could of direction bring about lots extra severe injuries. b. regularly speaking, mountain cycling can take you to extra scenic places. besides the fact that if, I even have observed 2 undemanding hazards of mountain cycling: a. You look very lots laid low with a loss of wellness - i actually sense it if i'm hiking up a steep uphill on my mountain bike. b. interior the previous couple of years my mountain bike has necessary extra accepted maintenance than my street motorcycles ever did. The chain and rear cluster look to placed on out lots quicker than it does on a street bike. 2. rather, the extra you pay, the extra useful your bike would be. So how lots you spend could desire to be desperate by your guy or woman financial subject. a minimum of, i could advise getting a bike with all alloy aspects. Rear suspension may be solid, yet keep in mind that it will upload weight on your bike and which you will regularly could desire to spend lots extra money to get a "twin suspension" bike it rather is as easy as a "no longer undemanding-tail".

Sounds pretty good except for the tires. I love the tires, but they're not fast rolling. They grip like glue, but they're not fast, and you'll probably wear them out fast on paved roads.

I like the wheelset, the Sid is light, probably the only think to say about it, but workable. I would look at the Reba, but that's just my opinion.

Do you have the brakes or are you going to buy them? go for avid bb7, they will likely be a lot better.

From what it appears from your description it is a very good bike it just depends on what you are using it for when you go mountain biking if it is for down hill biking you will probably need a bit stronger frame and fork if it is just normal cross country back road it is great
