Heat is certainly a concern in that if your cooling system fails at 1 am your comp may be fried by 6am. The malware issue is another concern if you are constantly connected to the internet and do not use a firewall. Ther are new versions of firewalls that will auto-disconnect after a set period of time and some that prevent internet activity during certain hours, use of these will negate that problem.

But more importantly, to me, is that some updates do not take effect until the system is rebooted and if left on all the time, the update will never install. Also, when you power down, your system saves any settings that were changed during your session and any changes made will never be saved. This is important if your ever have to do a system restore in that the restore point will only go back to the last system update.

This issue has always been a point of discussion and my suggestion is to power down everyday just for the sake of heat and keeping your system updated.

Change your power settings to Hibernate

It's the most power and cost efficient PLUS it's less timely then waiting for the computer to boot each day.

PS - If your PC finds out you're calling it "puter" it will surely end its own life.

I leave mine on always but I need to use it like 5 hours out of the day for work. Its perfectly fine to leave it on all night for months really just reboot it every now and again to let it fiqure itself out.

depends on your motivation

on-off will eventually - through heat expansion/contraction - wear out a solder joint and something will fail, but that may never happen

but on-off will also save a lot of energy and money

Turn it off.

Power usage aside, your PC will eventually get infected with malware.
