Inbreeding is not my thing, but I have always found it peculiar that incest is such a hot-button issue in the Bible. Once again, I DO NOT do the incest thing. It is just that Adam and Eve were created, and then they brought Cain and Able into the world. What happened next? There had to be some intercourse happening, so a brother and a sister had to hookup somewhere, right? Does this not discredit the Bible in anyway, shape, or form?
Doesn't this call into question any other action that is labeled a 'Sin'? I mean is a sin exclusively a wrong doing or just a scare tactic to discourage people from acting instinctively? One answerer said, "Fornication is a sin." Either they do not understand the term, or they think having children of your own is wrong.

It also depends on your religious perspective I guess. However, just for the simple fact that are many different versions of the Bible, you have to admit, there are many gray areas to its text. Not to mention, the Bible was written by man, or so it is said. Therefore, if you blindly follow this, isn't that dangerous? Is that not the same as voting for a politician at random, and hoping they do what is required to be done? People make errors. Theoretically then, the Bible would contain errors.

Everyone here knows that I have a valid argument, yet you are refusing to even consider it, even though major issues such as this have been proven to have inconsistencies. How ironic is that?
I am not religious, as you may have guessed. I live on principles that I have developed throughout. I believe it was Socrates who encouraged people to ask questions about everything. Therefore, I respect those who wish to attend church and follow the teachings of said establishment. I encourage people not to do so without rational thought involved however.

Silly boy, It is only a sin if God says it is a sin?
you are definitely not "blind faith" material.
keep asking logical questions and you will end up in hell with the rest of us.
remember "God said it - I believe it - that settles it"
hope that helps

My dear friend,
you will read 'incest' in the Bible if you read it too literally without subjecting it to a measure of hermenutics and literary criticism. The Genesis story of the creation of Adam and Eve is mythology that tries to explore rather than explain the relationship that humanity has with a transcendent Creator. There are two accounts of Creation one in the first the other in the second Chapters of Genesis which are attributed to two different authers by the concensus of many modern scholars. It may be of note that in the first Chapter 'Adam' is essentially the Human race, consisting of many individuals; male and female. So if you accept that Adam was a population in the first place incest starts to become a little more remote - if still a possibility.
May I suggest to you that 'Sin' is a very religious term which in many cases is what can be contributed to the shortcomings in the human condition. Sin is not that cut and dried as many religious fundamentalist would have you believe. Having said this it does not mean that serious shortcomings would not ammount to 'sin' in the full sense.
If you have never studied the Bible with some guidance and objectivity you will never bring into focus how it functions for us because it is not that straight forward. Unfortunately too it depends who your instructors are because some are too biased and closed minded.
Peace and good hunting.

Contrary to evolutionary teaching, Genesis shows God created the first man and woman perfect. There was not so much as one corrupted or mutated gene in their bodies. Humanity was at its pinnacle but once sin (disobedience to God and independence from him) entered in, spiritual corruption was followed by physical corruption, yet only gradually. That is why God said they would die yet it took Adam 930 years to die physically. Only an exquisitely sound physical body could last 930 years. Gradually, humanity became less perfect and more corrupt and the life-span accordingly dropped.
So there was no need to prohibit close family marriages at the start. God did not state close marriages were wrong until the time of Moses. That served as a great protection for those who accepted God's rule. You are quite correct to assume that brothers and sisters coupled and produced children. This in no way discredits the Bible which simply tells us what happened and points out the dire results of sin. And it's worth adding that all that is not of faith is sin, so you might want to broaden your scope on the subject of sin (Romans 14:23).

Almighty God created the world and planned to populate it.
(Genesis 1:28) Further, God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it, and have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving upon the earth.”
With so few people, the problems and moral restrictions we have today do not apply to then.
Cain would have had to have married one of the daughters of Adam and Eve...in fact his own sister.
When enough people had been born on the earth, God would have brought in his moral restrictions.
We will never know ALL that God plans. But we can be sure, that those plans are in our best interests.

The bible suggests Adam and eve were not the only people around. Cain was afraid to be cast out because someone would seek and kill him but yet Seth had not yet been born and reading the account Adam and Eve had only the two children at the time.

Inbreding is not really anethical issue. It rapidly causes genetic abnormalities that would have been evident even to those who had no idea of genetics - in other words, they would have had a lot of deformed or dead offspring. It is certain that taboos against sex within families arose from this and became embedded in religious codes.
It is interesting that these codes differ in their degree in different religions. Indeed some cultures like to keep families close and actually encourage marrigage between cousins etc.

Genetic imperfections accumulated gradually over a long period of time. There was no prohibition against incest in the earliest stages of humanity. The law against incest came over 1000 years after the time of Adam and Eve. Since the blood lines were pure and without imperfection back then, birth defects were prevented and family relationships were preserved. The teaching of the Bible lends to-- by one man (Adam) the earth was to be populated.

Aside from the ethical considerations, inbreeding from a small founder population creates all kinds of genetic issues in the offspring - especially when the founder population consists of two individuals. There is no way a self-supporting population could arise from that scenario.

And you would REALLY think they'd wait 130 years for their next child? Man! common sense should tell you that there were lots of kids during that time period. Your problem is that you use the term incest too loosely for that time period. But your question IS suspect,, to say the least.

The bible is a complicated piece of work. It takes Faith like crazy to understand it, accept it and follow it. I've often thought about that as well. But have you ever heard where it is against God's will for you to trace your family tree. My theory on that is that if you do, you'll find that we are ALL related just branched out. After all Adam and Eve were our founding parents. Think about it. SO I understand your question, I just don't have a Christian answer for you.
