The article on Latin Music:
http://www.watchtower.org/e/19980808/article_01.htm
Helped me be more careful when choosing the Spanish music I listen to.
I listen to "corridos" and "rancheras(norteñas)" and I honestly didn't really read the lyrics. After reading this article, I went back to all of my favorite songs..and a few did have inappropiate lyrics.
Anyone who listens to Latin music...did this help you the way it helped me?
What did you think of the article?
I remember a few weeks ago, a brother gave a talk about this topic.

Hey!!!! youre very right, it did help me too. btw i dont listen to corridos or ranches cause idk i just dont like them but ive heard some that have like OMG so many bad words and things like the article mentioned and yea its good u went back and checked ur songs. Im proud of u =). I always try to be careful when i pick the songs im going to listen to. There are some that are OMG very inappropriate. i dont remember which scripture is the one that says that in everything moment we do or are doing something, we must do things that glorify god....something like that. (sorry but i know it in spanish and cant give the right translation in English) but my point is that if we listen to songs that have inappropriate lyrics then we would not be glorifying Jehovah and im sure we all want to glorify him. so yea it's a very good article.

I have just come back from our SAD so I am late in seeing this question, but I did want to answer because I know the situation. Learning Chinese, my husband and I like Chinese music and tend to listen to it a lot, but really, as we don't know enough Chinese yet to be able to understand all the lyrics, it is a potential danger,.
We too had talk some time back when we were in the Spanish congregation about our discernment when listening to music. Most music today the lyrics are questionable so we do have to be very selective in what we choose to listen to.

You hardly need a Watchtower article, or a talk in the Kingdom Hall, to point out that many lyrics are inappropriate for Christians to listen to. For centuries this has always been the case, with bawdy Music Hall songs and immoral operas on the go and now, today, rap, rock, gunge.... whatever. I love Latin music, especially when orchestrated. Go for purely musical renditions, minus the words, and you're in the clear!

I don't listen to Latin music, mainly due to the fact that I have not been exposed to it in life..... I just wanted to answer since you said "Jehovah's Witnesses".... Good day!!!

P.S I do try my best to exercise caution with other types of music too, I mean it'd be embarrassing to find yourself humming in the presence of others the tune of a song widely-known as inappropriate for Christians!!

It was a very good article. Caution should be exercised in all forms of entertainment, including movies and dancing.

I look forward to the time when music will be played and enjoyed outside the influence of a corrupt, immoral system. Then God’s righteous principles will pervade the earth and all music will be upbuilding, a source of praise to Jehovah.

I don't remember the artical specifically but it is always important to be careful, especially with foreign languages. I can't believe it but I agree with Asanana the Bible does give us clear warnings.

I often listen to Japanese music.

Why are you worried about what music you listen to? You are under the spell of the watchtower society. I pray that you would learn what True Freedom is in Jesus Christ.
