Taoism is universally practised by all Chinese. It is not a religion but a philosophy, an etiquette, a way of life.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with any book that promotes these ideals, but they might not, of themselves, be sufficient to promote the peace and tranquility of mind that religious practice can help to provide - and for the Western mindset probably Christianity, properly understood, provides the best base to work from, though not necessarily the only one.

This:
24 "I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins."

Jesus said that. So you can be practicing Compassion, Humility, Moderation all you want, but without Jesus, it is nothing.
