Often I have trashed an individual for terrible behaivior, ethics, or something else and have been told that I am attacking Jesus and not the individual. However, although I am an atheist, I have the utmost respect for the mythical character Jesus represents. So... are you?

YES...physical, and verbal...for me, to distinguish the two, apart.

I am able to. Not that I can remember being "trashed", but I can tell the difference when someone else is.

Most of the time, when I see a comment like the one you describe, it's usually really clear that it's directed towards the individual and not Jesus.

However I also see it all to often, people randomly attacking both an individual and Jesus for whatever reason (most times out of spite, or contempt) and that may confuse some people when they get only the individual trashings :P

Christianity is supposed to be a body of believers and in a perfect world an attack on one would be an attack on all. If you have a problem there is no need to trash or attack it merely point it out gently and you will get a better response and we are more likely not to attack you in kind. That is at least how I view the situation.

Some Christians will sometimes take a comment the wrong way, as everyone of any religion does. I am personally a Christian and I hope that I never make that mistake. I think that sometimes when it comes to religion people , of any religion, can get a bit touchy and defensive and end up expecting an attack. I appreciate that you respect our beliefs and hope that the Christians that you come across are good enough people to respect yours, as I want you to know I do.

I would know if the person is attacking my beliefs, the person is also attacking Jesus. If the person is attacking my character/personality then the person is attacking me.

I've just been to a country wherein the beliefs (religion) are various and they have understanding and respect for each and everyones belief.

I'm glad you have respect for Jesus even if you think as of the moment that His just a mythical character. I hope and pray that you get to know His life and His teaching more.

Peace.

You think you have it bad, dude, how do you think I feel when I trash some of the Christians on this site? I get the whole 'plank in your eye' line from 'em, like it's the only passage in the Bible they know. And they don't know it very well, because they're focusing on a very narrow view of the actual message... I'm boring you, aren't I.

Two questions...
1) I thought you were Agnostic--when did you finally get off the fence?
2) Where's the Gene Simmons tongue? You're not Jamus without the tongue!

I base it on those scriptures: (James a million:13) . . .while under trial, enable no one say: “i'm being tried via God.” For with evil issues God won't be in a position to be tried nor does he himself try anybody. (a million Corinthians 10:13) . . .No temptation has taken YOU different than what's undemanding to adult adult males. yet God is devoted, and he won't make it easier to be tempted previous what you could undergo, yet alongside with the temptation he additionally will make the way out to verify which you to be waiting to bear it. God does not take excitement in in our misfortunes, devil does. In all my reviews of undesirable issues happening i've got in no way have been given to the factor the place it became too plenty for me and not something befell. while i think i'm achieving snapping factor the subject the two is going away or the region variations and that i will manage it from yet another attitude.

As long as you are not speaking of His name in vain, or demeaning Him in anyway, or criticizing them in what they believe in, then no, you are not attacking Jesus. If you are attacking the person personally and on the basis of them alone without bringing up religion or Jesus Christ, then you are only attacking them, not Jesus. Yes, I am a Christian, and I do know the difference. However, if you do attack Jesus, then we do take it personally and you are considered to be attacking us by attacking Him. I am sure that some people see it the other way around as well.

Many, particularly the conservative and literalistic brands of the various faiths, wrap their sense of identity and self-worth entirely around their religion. Any attack on them is seen as an attack on their religion. Conversely, any criticism of their religion is percieved as an attack on them personally.

This seems to affect the leaders in particular, who somehow conflate their own personal prejeduces and opinions with that of their chosen deity. Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and their ilk are excellent examples of this.

I think a Christian knows when you are attacking them versus a religious belief....but it is the Christian way to defend what they believe so you might as well be attacking them....and I think you know what you are doing when you are attacking the religion...you are trying to get a rise out of them....and it works...and if that's how you get your kicks....so be it.....if you have a problem with someone's behavior, ethics....try addressing the action versus the link to their religion....it's not God's fault someone's being a prick....they made a choice to be that way....

Please tell me how you respect, highly, a God, in your opinion, that doesn't exist? That's like saying you highly respect the Easter bunny.
Please explain!!!
And, is this an attack on you or Atheism?

I only care that you really know God almighty personally, not as a mythical character. He is real, stop trying to figure god out in your head, he lives in the heart of his people and you are his people, his child, made in his image, but your heart is so hard it can't let God in, nor do you want to!
I will pray for you tonight though coz i believe you are a good person, just lost.
