Yeah listen to people like ML that clearly has a chip on their shoulders for who mormons are, lol. You are going to run into exclusiveness anytime a group of likeminded people are living in a community. Human nature. It isnt just mormons.

I am mormon and I live in southern ca where mormons are more part of the outside community and are highly respected because diversity is actually acceptable here.

This is a website that sort of outlines how our beliefs differ from traditional christianity but can be substantiated in the Bible.

Mormons are christians that believe in christ as their savior. We dont believe that the Catholic church, or any church had the authority from Christ or the apostles to establish Gods church because the people were in such a state of apostacy that they would have distorted the true teachings of the religion and corrupted the church. In the Bible we saw how after the death of Christ the teachings were already becoming skewed and corrupted. So the priesthood authority and the fullness of the gospel was taken from the earth until the time when it could be restored and never be corrupted. We Believe that time was Joseph Smiths time and now. That JS was given the keys of the priesthood and authority to reestablish the original church of God found in the Bible and preached of by Christ. That an additional set of scriptures of the prophetic writings of prophets in america was translated by JS and presented as another testament of Christ. We believe in the King James version of the Bible, but that we also have additional scriptures of prophets from the americas, too. They go hand in hand. Neither is more important than the other. We also believe the original set up of the church was established, with prophets and apostles to guide and lead the church. Temples were restored.

We differ from some teachings of traditional christianity, but we dont believe traditional christianity had any authority to proclaim such doctrine as the trinity. We dont believe in a traditional concept of heaven and hell. God would not condemn good people to an eternity of miserable burning for not fully comprehending the plan of salvation in this lifetime. Heaven is progression, hell is being stuck. We believe that spouses can be sealed for time and all eternity and that families can be sealed together as well. We believe that we have the possiblity of gaining all the knowledge of God and pursue an eternal increase and families and continue this plan of salvation with our own eternal families if we prove ourselves worthy.

We believe all churches have some truth, but only ours has the fullness of the restored gospel, but we respect the right of all people to worship how they may.

Those are some basic overviews. Go to LDS.org if you really want to know in depth who and what mormons are and stand for.

Please get your info from mormons though. I dont know why nonmormons think they know what we believe better than we do. Although it can be fun hearing that you believe in something you never knew you did, lol

Mormon is a nickname for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Because of this belief in a book called the Book of Mormon, they have that nickname. The Book of Mormon is an ancient record of the inhabitants of the Americas. It records the visit of the 5resurrected Jesus Christ to them in the Americas, and the Book of Mormon contains Christ's teaching and gospel. In a sense, the Book of Mormon is "another testament of Christ: in addition to the old and new testaments of the bible.
Mormons believe that our families are instituted of God and the family unit is important. Mormons believe that we can live together as families in the next life, with God for eternity.

After the death of Jesus Christ, the Apostles of the Church were persecuted, many of them killed. With the death of the Apostles, priesthood keys and authority were taken from the earth. Doctrines were corrupted and unauthorized changes were made in Church organization and priesthood ordinances, such as baptism and conferring the gift of the Holy Ghost.

This “apostasy” led to the emergence of many churches. Many of which, recognized that the doctrines and ordinances of the gospel had been changed or lost. They did not claim prophecy but instead the Christian churches tried to reform teachings and practices.

These events of reformation led to religious freedom. Which opened the way for the final restoration of Christ’s church.

God once again reached out to His children in love. He called a young man named Joseph Smith as a prophet. Through him the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored to the earth.

The young missionaries of the Mormon Church can teach you the rest of this story…Bible, Book of Mormon, Families, Temple, Marriage, etc. It’s wonderful!

Mormons are followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They follow the Book of Mormon, along with the Bible, which is considered to them as another testament of Jesus Christ. It entails the supposed history of North America and Jesus visiting the people who lived here after his ressurection.

The history has little to no factual basis, but majority of the Mormons I know (and I know many of them, as I'm related to some) are happy people with lots of faith. It is in my opinion that if a religion makes you happy then you should follow it.

RockaSta: Actually, they believe that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon, which he found written on golden plates that were buried in New York.

A religious group viehing and starving for the same type of power that Christians have now, but not only believe in indigestible crap like Christians, but are ten times worse. I live in Utah and can always spot most Mormons by their intellectual logical powers.

Don't get me wrong, I've met some nice ones, especially the older ones, and the ones that are out of their element and trying to convert you, but if you are not a Mormon, they look down on you and won't do business with you unless you are buying from them.
