It's like someone whacked you with a 2x4, and then you collapse. You feel like you're stoned, and then you feel sick to your stomach. Then the pain starts, and it hurts real bad!

Took a 9mm through the left hand, entered the palm and exited just a the wrist. Hand was thrown behind my back and when it came back around , the top of my hand was blown wide open.Skin pelted back to my knuckles, bones and muscles exposed. The first few seconds it was just numb and I could not even lift it.The hand was shattered and bleeding profusely.I stood there in disbelief that I was hit.
Then the pain and reality hit me like a sledgehammer. I was alone and messed up bad.Thank god I had the since enough to tie it off and get to help fast.It felt like it was on fire and someone hand smashed it with a hammer. One of the bones in my hand was blown away and the others broken, tendons to my index and middle finger were severed,it also did excessive nerve damage to the hand.Cut the main artery in my wrist and broke the wrist when it was flung behind my back. The top of my hand had to be skin graphed back together.
It took two operations to fix all the damage and two and a half years of physical therapy to get 80% uses back.I have deranged feeling in the hand, when its cold it feels wet and it has a constant tingle feeling .I still can not straighten the index and middle finger due to tendon damage.
But I can make a fist,so I can use tools.I have worked as a machanic for 35 yrs since the injury.

It feels like being hit by a 300mph bowling ball, you won't know what hit you literally, it won't necessarily knock you down. If the shot grazes you, you may not even know you've been hit. The pain isn't that bad, the adrenaline blocks it out (at least in combat). The burning sensation wasn't too bad when I was hit straight on, but the rounds that were slowed down by my vest burned a hell of a lot more.

I was told that the first moment one does not even understand that he got shot, only a thud, blow like feeling, later pain (or not) comes to it. Sometimes it is only understood after it got visible (bleeding). Of course it depends on which part of the body one gets the shot.

It feels bad enough to not want to know how it feels to get shot ;)

It can't possibly hurt as much as the pain you must feel from the ignorance of not knowing how to spell!

It doesn't feel a thing.

You'll go numb instantly and your brain tells you to calm down.
