I'm a pastor
Well, Jesus called it in advance. He spoke about a mustard seed, the smallest of seeds, and it grew into a big tree, and the birds came and nested in the branches.
well, Mustard Trees don't exist. They're bushes. Also, in the Bible, we find that whenever a symbol is used for certain things, it stays that way throughout the whole book. Birds are used to describe demonic forces.
So, Long story short, The Jews knew what Jesus was talking about when he said this. The "church" will get bigger than it really is, and non christians and false prophets and demonic forces will make their home in it.
This happened when Constatine made Christianity the official religion, and introduced a bunch of pagan practices. It continues today.
The key is to keep going back to the source, Which is the Bible, and to stay in fellowship with Jesus through prayer.
Keep you knees on the ground, your nose in His book, and your eyes on Jesus, and you'll be just fine.

You have to consider that most people of the day were illiterate, poor, and had virtually no education beyond what it took to survive. They had to depend upon information passed by word of mouth. Under such circumstances the chances for individuals to add their own take to whatever were the original intentions of Christ's words increase exponentially as the message moves outward to ever-farther places from centers of activity. Heresies were rampant from the first century on through history. The miracle of Christianity is that it survived in spite of the believers, however well-intentioned or not, and only with the help of the state and the sword.

The best place to learn the History of Christianity is at a University, not from a pastor or church leader because they will give you a biased version that serves their agenda. They won't tell you that the first Christians were Jews who followed the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Christianity as we know it today started in the first century, however faith in a Savior/Messiah is Christianity also. It all began shortly after the fall in Eden with the promise of a Savior to redeem us. "I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between you seed and her Seed: He shall bruise you head And you shall bruise His heel. Gen. 3:15. This is the first prophesy of the coming of Christ.

Jesus promised to bless and keep the church he founded until the end of time, so all that the authentic church teaches and practices, regarding faith and morals, will be forever protected from corruption.
Personal corruption, both inside and outside the church, looks like it will also be always with us ... but it's nothing that God can't handle.

I have no sites to give you. but i can tell you what i think.
Humans are sinful. There's no arguing about it. We screw things up. Thank the Lord that He gave us His Holy Word and Holy Spirit. It is corrupted with many...but those who cling to his word are friends with the truth

If you are talking about the beginning of the church after the resurrection, just read the Book of Acts. We don't have gaps there. It's not something that 'died' and then got back up. It was continuous.
Just read the Book of Acts.

Who says all the doctrines "got wrong" and on what evidence would anyone make such a bold claim?
