There is a person I work with who I know doesn't like me. However, when I am talking to my friends he comes around and shakes everyone's hand like he is their best friend. He only does this when I am with other people. So how do I get out of shaking his hand when he comes up to my friends (who are new & don't know this guy is a phony) & me? Thanks for your advice.

sounds like my sister, this person is very forward and not in the nice way. Just fold your arms and smile.

You start the introductions before he can put his hand out to you, which not only gets you out of shaking hands, but puts you in the position of power in the interaction,

I usuly dont shake hands a few different ways. i'm kinda crazy so sometimes i pretend i'm scared of thir hand... you may want more subtler aproach. i've found ignoring it works rather well.
if freeking out or ignoring it doesn't sound like a good idea, i'd recomend getting thoes little shocker things.
when they goto shake your hand they get a shock. play it as a practical joke... they may just not shake your hand again. lol.

If it someone you don't like, just go straight up to him and tell him in private you prefer him not to come over and shake your hand or even overdo it.

In Australia you NEVER refuse to shake someones hand. Never. Even if you hate each other. And even if you shake, then start punching on.

Just say "Gosh, how many time do u want me to shake ur hand?!?" If he says wat do u mean, say that he asked you to shake his hand so many times throughout the day already! It'll make ur friends see wat a freak he is! Then, when u guys arent around others, go up to him and act like u'll shake his hand, then when he extends his hand, take ur extended hand away and instead run it through ur hair! Just for a good laugh! Then laugh loudly and say bye best bud!

I would put my hands together like a praying mantis.
Or I would hold papers in both my hands or something to avoid a handshake.

Cough really hard into your hand (or sneeze if you can fake it realistically), smile and say, "Excuse me if I don't shake hands".
