I mean usually people want facts, quotes, references. Just give me an example of an argument where opinion counts??

Opinions count when the issue being argued is not based on fact, or no sure facts are known by either side.

Like...two people might argue over whether an artist should have used green or blue on a certain part of a painting.

some things are just matters of opinion, or there is no way to access the facts that might clear things up.

Opinions cannot count in an argument. Facts are the only measure of right or wrong. Opinions are fine but irrelevant when it comes to the state of the world

Some opinions do matter if it relates to factual ethical reasoning.

That's where the opinion really counts and its a well deserved argument that leads to a solution, which doesn't involve pay back or insults.

If it's an argument, people refuse to see the other person's opinion. The only thing you can make them shut up with is a cold hard fact that gives them nothing to say back to.

Usually a mind-blowing insult does the trick as well.

Opinion seems to count a lot in R&S. In some cases, evidence comes a distant second.
