For example, I was reading somewhere that there was no census taken during Cyrenius's reign as governor and even if there were, it was not customary to go to your ancestors' birthtown to register. Also, if Herod did in fact kill off every newborn baby boy, why is there no record of it when that would be a huge drop in the population and would be fairly newsworthy? Just to name a couple examples.

I'm fully aware that Jesus was not born on Dec 25 and that Christmas is based on Pagan traditions. That was not what I was asking.

To my knowledge, none of it has been verified independent of scriptural references. If I'm incorrect, then hopefully someone will post citations, but I'm not holding my breath.

There IS no Christmas story in the Bible.

There IS the story of when Jesus was born.

Jesus died at 33 1/2.

In about April / May [ Easter/ Nisan 14 of the Jewish calender]

Go back in time 33 1/2 years and you get September/ October for the approximate months he was born in...
NOT December 25.

In September, the shepherds still had their flocks in the field, the open.

By December, in Jerusalem, because of the cold and the possible ice and snow, they would have to have their stock undre cover...indoors. Any archaeologist who has studied Jewish practices of those days will confirm that each household had a lower floor for keeping stock.

Bethlehem had a very small population and was considered a backwater town. I think some estimates place its population at 200ish. How many of those had children under 2? That would be like 5 children tops. Herod was a very cruel guy, killing five kids in a backwater town was nothing noteworthy then.

None of it has been verified. the first books of the New testament as we know it today weren't even written until 30 years after the Romans sacked Jerusalem in 70AD - some 30+ years after jesus supposed death.

December 25th was the Pagan celebration of Winter Soltice.

What you've heard is mere speculation. It's up to those who claim there was no census to prove their case ... and they never have.

The slaughter of the innocents was a local matter, confined primarily to the vicinity of Bethlehem ... and it wouldn't have made a big dent in the overall population.

Figure 80 to 100 kids ... tops.

Today, we abort more than that before breakfast ... in Chicago alone ... and hardly anyone even notices.

different techniques, Reverend? purely one way that i be responsive to of. ask your self "Who am I?" do no longer ask all of us else. All else is a version of this question. you could actually initiate out asking another question, yet finally the question does develop into this one. The question has a heritage older than spoken or recorded heritage and the result's usually an analogous. finally, to genuine askers, the respond will become so obtrusive that he/she would be in a position to on no account desire a pastor returned. The very thought or thought of a "pastor" will come to look as though a hoax performed out on him/herself. There are no solutions of any usefulness discovered everywhere else exterior asking oneself.
