One of the last commands Jesus gave his disciples before ascending into heaven was to "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20)

Every day I see someone post a question on this page as to why Atheists show up here... as if Christians DON'T want them here.

Do we not realize that these people are the very ones that Christ was commanding his followers to minister to?

Do we not realize that by asking them why they are here, we are in essence saying that we don't want them here--and in turn are shooting ourselves in the foot at following one of Christ's most important commands?

Do we not realize that this attitude among Christianity is exactly what fuels its opposition, and that we are only propagating the beliefs of others about our faith?

When will you stop rejecting, and start doing what Christ commanded of you?

Sorry, Atheists... I know that this may have some annoying long term effects for y'all, but my brethren are really pissing me off tonight!

Sorry... I get a little dramatic when I'm upset.

I'll shorten the question--Why are Christians here trying to chase away the very people who they should be ministering to?

Amen to that!

It's sort of difficult online compared to real life, though, since we cannot search for "evidence" as quickly when we are speaking to another person.

On here, people copy and paste some so called loopholes, respond with satire, and that can fool the weak-minded,so called Christians. I think that is what people are afraid of. They shouldn't be, though, since we have wisdom on our side.

I have come to find that most, not all, Atheist are condescending towards Christians and are belief in God. I think that you should not believe as much as I believe. In this day and age, unless you are living some remote village away from any form of communication, most people know about the Bible and the teachings of Christ. To me, coming up to you and talking with you about God and Jesus doesn't make sense to me when there is some that truely doesn't know God and what Jesus did for them. The is an old say, "You can bring a horse to water but you can't make him drink." I can tell you about Christ but I can't make you believe.

I do agree with you that, for the most part, the Christian community does not represent who Christ is. We are suppose to respesent the body and the Church he's bride but, unfortunately, the body is not as righteous as it should be and the bride is not quite ready for her groom.

Lastly, In Mark 16:15-16, says "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be dondemned." Yes, they are the "very ones that Christ was commanding his followers to minister to" but most Atheist do not want to hear what we have to say or already know but choose not to believe. It is by God's gift of free will that allows Atheist to choose not to believe and his Grace and Mercy that allows me, a humble sinner, to believe, repent and accept his salvation through our Savior Jesus Christ.

As I have stated before I don't mind many of the atheists in here if they are sincere or at least humuorus, but the truth is many come in here just to try and be insulting and fan the flame. Jesus also said don't cast your pearls before swine lest they be trampled under foot. he also told his disciples when they went inot a town if people didn't recieve them to shake the dust off their feet as a sign. Not everything Jesus said was crowd pleasing. He wasn't interested in whether people liked him. He was there to tell them the truth and often people don't want to hear the truth especially if it requires change. EDIT: To oneye. Sorry but your answer seems like a copout. If you have any honesty you will realise that all people at times are hypocritical myself and yourself included. So when you find a non believer who is a hypocrit will this cause you to abandon atheists with equal determination? I hope so but kind of doubt it because from much experiance people seem to look for anexcuse to do what they want and then blame everyone else to justify it.

Probably because an atheist is just here to attack. And attackers rarely want to hear and listen to the intended victims.

Ive been in this section for a while now considering it a ministry and next to know fruit. I dont feel that the paticular group of atheists that come in here are very serious about anything. Just is just the perfect place to let loose their hatred without fear of consequence.

Good point. We need to do all we can to spread the truth everywhere we can. Some of the people here are very jaded and the odds of them returning to God are slim but it is still there and we have been commanded to try and light the fire in their souls.

You are right, if your fellow Christians were to be more like the Jesus Christ of the gospels, then they would be very respectable, unfortunately they like to group think and are just as immoral as the rest of us (in fact I have found those who are suppose to be most respectable, hypocrites), I myself used to be a devout Christian. Part of the reason that I have found myself an atheist is because of the actions of many Christians who I have grown up knowing who have made me realize some fallacies. Out of all the Christians here on Y!A I must confess (maybe because I am drunk ; ) ) you are the one I have the most respect for, thou I am fond of Father K as well.

I don't understand...in fact, it gets me really angry. Why bother trying to convert someone, if they don't want to?
Just let people believe in what they believe if they are happy like that. So they don't believe in the "lord saviour", then who cares!?
I mean, I'm Catholic, but you don't see me running around trying to convert everyone I meet.
Let people do as they wish. Besides, if you people are doing it to "save" them from hell, can they even go to hell if they don't believe in it?

Thank you SDW.

All are, and should be welcome here. Christians can be A** holes too, but so can everyone else. (The original sin thing.)

We Christians can pray for peace and civility. You Atheists can hope for the same.

No. Christians are just stating what they feel.

I've asked an Atheist last week if he believed in God, and he said "no". Then I asked the Atheist if God existed? He did not have an answer for that.

But understand that Yahoo Answers is a blog of universal religions, and we should learn to respect people's freedom of speech no matter how blasphemous it may be. It would be best to skip those questions and carry on to answering other questions, not involving any religion.

You know it!

We have many pastors to thank, along with a lot of disobedient sheep! They want to divide themselves into groups who listen to Christian music only ( which sounds a lot like the music in the world these says ), talk to Christians only, divide themselves from the unwashed, and act like they are 'pure' people who do the will of God, when the opposite is actually true. They forget how dirty they are except God will not count their sins against them.

And the messages of morality and 'making yourself' better for God is rampant like a fire in their ranks. Well, the world is sick of that, with a reason. If they instead preached the Gospel they would still be hated, but without a reason.
