In the English speaking world, and in French and German, it's "zed". Where did y'all come up with "zee" anyway?

I always get told off for saying 'zee' since I'm in australia and supposed to call it 'zed'. I just go with what sounds better at the time. especially when singing the song lol

When I learned the alphabet, that was what I was taugth and our education is patterned after the American way. I did not know it was called by others "zed".
But now, I come to be informed through you that everybody else calls it "zed" except the Americans and the nations who were influenced by her. Thanks for the information.

It's possibly following the pattern of the other letters like:
B (bee), G (gee) etc. It's not a crime to say Zee, it's thought that this comes from a 17th century British dialect. Zed is modelled after the Greek 'Zeta'.

I am British and I don't care how it is said, I know what people mean.

Because in the alphabet song, "Zed" doesn't quite sound as fitting as Zee.

"Zed's dead baby, zeds dead!" - pulp fiction.

Its just a letter with two names, I usually say... well, I can't think of what I usually say but when saying the alphabet I end it with zee because of the song. "A" also has 2 ways of being said
"aaaah" and "aaaaaaaaa". sorry, not very helpful but not too bad?
