The Japanese Navy has been suppling US ships with fuel and water since 2001. While their help is much appreciated, the US Navy can carry on the mission without Japanese help. It was a helpful contribution and assisted the US greatly though in the beginning of the war when US vessels were tasked to more homeland security types of missions and needed support in the Indian Ocean theater of operations.

Japan were supplying refueling at sea to ships going to Iraq with supplies Afghanistan is fairly landlocked and they don't need the Japanese navy

Several vessels were engaged including Nigiri-zushi, Maki-zushi, Oshizushi, Chirashi and Narezushi....... all Saki gone!!
