If you were at your child's doctor today, you shouldn't be on here tonight asking total strangers questions about your child.
Why didn't you ask the doctor these things? He is probly the only one who will be able to answer them.
All kids start walking at different ages! All kids weigh different at different stages! He is probly fine!!

What did the Doctor say about the weight ? I would ask him/her first. If he's healthy and happy, you are lucky!
All kids are different, and grow at different rates. Some are just smaller than others. Kids truly do come in all sizes, I know an 8 year old who weighs 90 lbs, and another 8 yo that weighs 40!
But to make yourself feel better, I'd ask the Dr. to make sure.

Okay, first of all my son will be *four* in March and he only weighs 32 pounds.

Secondly, your son was a premie which means he will tend to be smaller and grow slower, especially as a baby.

And lastly, doctors are more concerned about *consistant* growth rather than the actual size of your baby. Your son is probably in about the 10th percentile for weight for children his age (meaning that he weighs the same or more than 10% of children his age), so what your doctor is looking for is that he stays in the same "growth percentile" not that he necissarily gains a certain amount of weight. If your doctor had been concerned about his weight he would have told you at your appointment.

Don't worry-your son is fine!!

i had the same problem with my daughter she will be 17 months on the 8th of this month and is only 22 lbs and she was full term her doctor was concern at first when she was 12 months but the nurse had the charts wrong so they re weighed her and did her height and eveything and she's just fine my dr told me she is just tall for her age she's in the 75th percentile for height and her weight is in the 10th percentile which is a good weight for her height so nothing to worry about he will gain weight just give him time i know how you feel cause i was a bit worried about my daughter too thats what good moms do is worry right.....good luck!!

You say he was 2 months early...Some preemies start out behind the average babies...If your Dr did not express his or her views on your sons weight I would not worry over it... Premature babies are sometimes smaller as well. A friend of mine had her son 2 months early as well, he was also smaller that the average his age until puberty hit...then he shot up and was healthy his entire childhood. If your son is eating and happy, he is fine and will probably catch up in time.

OK I am in Oz so we do everything in Kilo's mot pounds so I am quickly trying to convert for you.
The first thing I would say is.. What did your Doc say? Was he/she concerned?
My first son at 16 months weighed 10.25 kilos which I think is about 22lbs 2oz.
My second son at 18 months weighed 11.4 kilos which again I think is about 24lbs 5 oz.
If my conversions are right then I would say your son is pretty much on track so I wouldn't worry too much. I hope this helps.
And don't lose faith in the site their are genuine people trying to help, but for a few fools this site is great.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. As long as he is eating and having regular bowl movements, he should be just fine. If it makes you feel any better, my son is 19 months old and only weighs about 22 pounds (actually a little less now because he got sick last week). His doctor isn't concerned.

Your son was a preemie and just needs time to catch up, thats all. Give him more protein, chicken, fish, turkey-and milkshakes usually put the weight on quick. Protein builds muscle and thats all he's missing. Your son's weight is actually normal for his age at this point in time-A patient I have weighs 13lbs at 9mths and that is normal-Alot of preemies dont walk till they are almost 2yrs-yours is doing just fine-give it time and give yourself a break. Take him to a park and let him play on the junglejims!

For a preemie they may not gain weight that much...my niece is 6mths preemie at birth (with size of a 1.5kg chicken!) n now 18 yrs old, she's on the small bone catagary. What's best is your baby is healthy and developing well. Mine is 19 mth old n skinny boy with weight of 10.5kg the last check-up n now he's losing 2kg (i should be the one worrying here)i guess cause he's sick with diarrhoe since last friday...Shower with love n you may see your child grow tremendously!!! you should not worry too much

theres alot to consider.like what size are his parents and there families,it depends alot on genetics.no 2 children are exactly alike.being 2 months early wont affect his size much at his age.for example,me and my hubby are both only 5 foot 4 and five foot 5,but our grown son is 6 foot 4,all his uncles are tall ppl,he takes after them.alot depends on that stuff,if dr isnt worried then i wouldnt be worried either.
