I studied anthropology at the University of Chicago, and one day this little factoid was mentioned in class. Of course, at least one student had to try it, and that student was my dorm neighbor. He hollowed out a tomato, filled it full of powdered nutmeg and swallowed it in one go. Like the earlier postings mentioned, it took some time for it to hit him, and when it did, it was awful. He hallucinated and became VERY paranoid, to the point that we feared he was going to hurt himself. He also started having very dangerous heart palpitations. We got him to the hospital, where the doctors were stunned that someone could be that stupid. They pumped his stomach and kept him under observation for two days - I suspect he could easily have died.
Stay AWAY from this one, pal!

Yes, it is possible to get high from eating a bunch of nutmeg. It can also make you puke. 6 teaspoons can be enough to kill you. The high isn't that great either. It takes 5 hours or more to actually start to work, so a lot of people think nothing is going to happen and then suddenly realize they have taken way too much.

Nutmeg has effects similar to that of Ecstasy however it has a terrible taste and the side effects are very severe. It can cause dizziness, a fast heart beat, constipation, nausia and often makes it hard to urinate. Another side effect is often severe paranoia.
Those effects are able to last up to two to four days after ingestion.

Nutmeg can be VERY dangerous! If you ingest enough of it, it can mess with your brain, or even kill you. It's extremely toxic in large doses, and will make you hallucinate -- and you can have really terrible withdrawals. It's not worth the trip to eat something that can make you psychotic and shut down your internal organs.

The amount that will cause you to hallucinate is close enough to the amount that will poison you that I wouldn't try it. The tase and side effects are unpleasant as well.

Like I told my brother; "Don't be an idiot!" while cuffing him upside the head.
