Well I have always thought giant fire breathers to be rather wrath of god type stuff so... it is rather appropriate.

Because the Basilisk is a frilled Lizard who walks on water and is also called King (Lizard).
And some cathedrals of worship are called "Basiliques" like the one of St-Denis, in France.

the same reason humans go to the cat section. lizards must have an interest in Jesus ? just watch out for Chuck Norris. You know that snakes are just lizards that Chuck bit the legs off of.
