People with restless leg syndrome simply don't exert enough energy before trying to fall asleep. During the afternoon or late evening, they should go for a jog for at least 30 minutes. After doing this, their legs should not be so restless anymore. People get restless when they don't exercise enough or exert enough energy! I'm just so tired of seeing these doctors making up new syndromes (I know RLS has been out for at least a couple years now) so the pharmaceutical companies can pump Americans full of new drugs which in a couple years will be shown to cause heart failure and a multitude of other problems. EXERCISE AMERICA, and I guarantee alot of your problems will just disappear. This is just my opinion, a very strong opinion though.

lil-miss-cookie: I'm very sorry to hear that exercise doesn't work for your RLS. I am glad to hear you are taking valuum to help you sleep rather than any of these much newer medications. Valuum can be addictive for some, not all, people but it has a longer history than Requip or any RLS medicines and is safe if used properly.

I just wanted to add this. I was misdiagnosed with schizophrenia and was taking Geodon and Abilify, at separate times, and it gave me akathisia (a feeling of motor restlessness) in the legs real bad, where it kept me up at night. I am guessing RLS is much like that feeling I had. A doctor told me to start taking B-12 because the medicines were causing a deficiency. It worked very well and almost completely eliminated the akathisia. I'm just curious, has anyone here that has RLS tried B-12? Did it help any? I know my problem was caused by the medicine I was taking so my situation was probably alot different than someone with RLS.

Your wrong.
I have tried every variable that exists and exercising at night didn't improve my symptoms what so ever.
You are also ignorant to believe its a made up illness. Just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
I have had RLS since childhood and it has significantly impacted my life.
I am unable to ever be at rest.
I am never comfortable.
I am chronically exhausted no matter how long I sleep.
Even when I manage to fall asleep PLMD keeps me awake. PLMD (periodic limb movement disorder / nocternal myoclonus)another made up disease I suppose.
Your very strong opinion is very wrong

Im sorry to say but this doesnt work. I myself suffer from rls and am one of the youngest people to suffer from it unfortunately i have tried this among alot of other things and it doesnt work. Doctors have actually come to the conclusion that i might have been doing to much exercise. You see i used to train as a professional swimmer since i was 5. Since then i have cut down on how much i do and it seems to have helped a little bit but unfortunately i still have to take valiam every night to help me sleep. There are different ways to help people witht his condition perhaps the theory you have suggested (which has been suggested numerous times) could be the case for sum people but unfortunately it isnt the case for all .

I have never had any issues with RLS but last night when I went to bed it was so terrible. I was so tired and falling asleep was not an issue.....but every time I would just get to sleep I would wake up because of the feeling in my legs. I had to move them to even be Comfortable. I would finally fall asleep again and the same thing would happen. Eventually I did get to sleep and stayed asleep but I am so tired and irritated today!! I'm so afraid that tonight I am going to go to bed and have the same thing happen. For those of you that have suffered from this for any length of time I feel your pain. Anyone have any luck with herbs for this?

I have RLS whether I spend the day running up and down a corridor nursing, or if I have a day off. Knee high surgical socks give some relief. It is a miserable feeling to be so sleepy but your legs have this almost unbearable sensation.

I just wanted you to know that I agree with you... my friends and I have an ongoing joke about what we call RL'sS (restless legS syndrome) for the same reasons you just mentioned, that they make up diseases for everything! I'm not trying to get any retaliating comments geared toward either you or I, but I completely back up what you're saying! Plus, you're going the extra mile to offer real help to people who apparently have it or believe they have it. I think that's really open-minded of you!

No. I do not think you have found the cure for RLS. I grow wary of people thinking that syndromes are not real diseases.

Rls is so bogus! Just another "syndrome" for the pharmaceutical companies to shove pills down our throats.Everything can be cured with herbs.A guy cured himself of cancer with a herb I have his book. He was found dead 4 months later from a gun shot wound, wonder who had him killed? The pharmaceutical compaines duh! Because theirs no money in the cure!
