A police officer, in the process of his duty, is exempt from many laws, including traffic regulations. While still expected to drive safely, an officer may exceed speed limits, turn without signals, cross intersections against red lights, pass beyond double yellow lines, etc.

AND, he may do these things even if he is NOT involved in a high speed chase. Just because you don't see his light flashing, or he does not have his siren blaring, it does NOT mean that he is, blatently breaking laws. YOU have no way of knowing what is going on, and what the officer is involved in.

Go ahead and report and complain about what you may think are illegal activities. Just don't expect that you will always get the response you expect.

It's never OK for a policeman to break the law. Because he's a cop, he's not above the laws, by breaking the law, he sets a bad example for others to follow. when pursuing a bad guy at high speed, the law is not broken because it allows cops to do their job effectively.

Never.
As Vince points out, there are exceptions.
There are also rules to follow when using the exceptions.
Most people don't bother to read the actual laws, so they don't know the exceptions or their rules.
Turning on the Blues to pull into Dunkin Donuts for a coffee is not allowed, yet I see it all the time. Bad cops.

When law is not just then it is OK. Law and Justice are two different things. Some laws have been changed because of activism.

If you see Dirty Harry, 1971 movie, Clint Eastwood then you will see that at times the blind justice becomes even blinder.

only under EMERGENCY situations....other-wise they must OBEY the rules....if you see one "breaking" the rules , become a nuisance and keep reporting these things to the precint in your area. after awhile , the offender should get the message.....this goes for ALL of you who read this response ,as well, we ARE their Employers and WE have the right to let them know when we SEE this sort of thing happen. with-out the tax-payer , these clowns would not be in a JOB!
