By the Jews--Blasphemy

By the Romans--Insurrection & Treason

2007-11-02 17:51:22 · answer #1 · answered by SDW 6 · 4 0

First of all the political situation was unstable.
The Romans ruled, but not unopposed.
The Jews were one of the less stable groups under Rome because they refused to integrate or practice emperor worship, which made the state nervous, which made the state crack down, which made the Jews restless and resentful, which made the state nervous, in an ever continuing cycle.
The Romans who ruled Judah didn't really understand the culture. They just knew that when the Jews were excited there was usually an inserection.

The Jewish belief of the time was that the Messiah would come and free God's people of Roman oppression.

Jesus told people he was the promised Messiah.

This made the Jews nervous because
1) It was blasphemy
2) If it was true the religious leaders had been wrong about a lot of things.
3) That kind of talk tended to get back to the Romans and bring oppression.

The Jews being nervous made the Romans nervous. Talk of a Messiah who would be the king of Judah made the Romans more nervous.

The Jewish charges were blasphemy

The Roman charges were treason.

Barrabus, the man released in place of Jesus, was a rabble rouser and a revolution inducer.

technically? Naturally, He was crucified because he was under Roman jurisdiction [and crucifixion was a roman means of execution, not Jewish]. He was executed as a criminal for Blashphemy. He said he was God Almighty. This violated Jewish Law, so they had him executed, despite the evidence of his divinity.

Spiritually, he died for our sins. Bringing atonement for the transgressons against God's Law that we commited. It ties in with the Jewish Laws concering sacrifice as a means of atonement; and the Passover Lamb; a sacrifce that was spotless and holy etc etc. His death was symbollic as well as physically representative of God's redemptive plan of salvation for mankind.

He was rejected by his own people because he did not come in the way that they expected. They thought the Messiah would be coming as a rich influential person, born into royalty or a strong and wealthy political family. [though his genetic linegae was royal and in line with ever prophecy concering the Messiah] he came to them as a poor person, and from a poor family and worked in a rudimentary trade [carpentry]. and half the time had nowhere to live ROFL. and so on. Therefore they called him a heritic and a blashphemer and crazy and had him executed.
Yet everything about his life [and even his death] was fortold in Jewish Law & prophecy. We know he is the Christ, not just by his life, but by his death that was fortold. [his death & resurrection complete the fulfillment of what was spoken about the Messiah. Had he not died, AND in the way that he did, he would surely not have been the messiah.]
They were looking for an earthy kingdom, and earthy redemption; and God's plan was for an eternal one; since the eternal is what is lasting anyways. ♥♥

*edit* to ADD this, in RE to a few comments posted, Jesus WAS Jewish; It was his own people [religious] that had him executed, at the hands of the Romans; though no one, neither Jew or Gentile is without blame. That's why he said from the Cross, "Forgive them Father, because they don't know what they are doing." ♥

*edit* again! Lady Liberty ---> nicely put. Scott: nice job! good answer! Mesquite: nicely put!

and hey, why is everyone thumbsdowning McCaw? don't you have a sense of humour? That answer was just funny!!

Jesus was crucified by the Romans for starting a riot in the Jewish temple, and inciting other Jews to rebel against Roman rule.

The idea to blame the Jews for his death came years later, after the Jews and Christians had split. Jesus lived as a devout Jew, and all his followers were Jews. It is not blasphemy to proclaim one's self the messiah, or to call someone else the messiah. Furthermore, the idea that Jews "lacked the authority" to execute people was blatantly false, as was proven a few years later when Stephen was stoned. His crime was not declaring Jesus the messiah. It was proclaiming Jesus as the christ.

There were six parts to Jesus’ trial: three stages in a religious court and three stages before a Roman court. Jesus was tried before Annas, the former high priest; Caiaphas, the current high priest; and the Sanhedrin. He was charged in these “ecclesiastical” trials with blasphemy, claiming to be the Son of God, the Messiah.

He was crucified by the Romans in order to appease the Jews who wanted him killed for blasphemy.

SDW>There were no Roman charges brought against him. He had 4 Jewish trials and was examined by Pilate and found innocent.

Sedition or there was no reason for a representative of Rome to be involved.

The Roman manner of government was not to involve their-selves with internal squabbling with regional religious disputes. But Jesus could not be put to death for heresy so the Sanhedrin accused Jesus of sedition.

To which Jesus replied: My kingdom is not part of this world.
John 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
________
So Pilate had but one recourse.... read on

John 18:37-40
37
Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
38
Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault [at all].
39
But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
40
Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

He was never really charged with a crime. It was a time when the ruler would release a prisoner from jail, and the people would choose who they wanted released. When Pilot ask the crowd who they wanted released, they choose Barabbas. So that left Jesus to suffer and die. But also to, that was all in God's plans ahead of time. Jesus was born to die. To save us from sin and break the bond that satan had over death, and to rescue the captives from satans prison. A 3 fold task.

Hello there Sister:)
Was our Lord accused? He was. Was He guilty? No. There was no sin found in Him. Even by the political world, there was no fault found in the Lord. In the Religious world He was guiltless.

He came TO die.
Before the foundation of the world, this Lamb of God was slain.
Revelation 13:8

"And all those dwelling on the earth will worship him, every one whose name was not written in the book of Life of the Lamb Who was slain from the foundation of the world"

Even Before sin actually entered into the world with Adam and Eve.. before the foundation of the world was laid, this Lamb of God knew He was going to die. This boggles the mind.

He died in three statuses
As the Lamb of God to deal with the matter of Sin and Satan. Through the Lord's blood we are redeemed from satan and have been brought nigh to God in the Blood of Jesus CHrist.
John 1:29
And next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said' Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world"

Our Lord also died as the Brass Serpent.
John 3:14
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up.
Through His death in this status our Lord Jesus dealt with the serpentine nature man got injected with from satan the old serpent in the garden. This sinful nature along with the Old Serpent were both JUDGED ( Bronze, Brass typifies judgement) on the Cross of Jesus Christ.

Last status is as the Precious Grain of wheat.
John 12:24-25
And Jesus answered them saying, The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
Truly truly I say to you, Unless the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies it abides alone, but if it dies it bears much fruit.

Hallelujah.. As this wonderful grain of wheat, the Lord Jesus died in order to release His life to us. We live because of Him as the many grains. Through His death and resurrection He is the firstborn among many brothers. In Christ's death and resurrection He is now able to impart the Life of God into us making us the many sons of God. THis is crucial in the three statuses. This is the status that gives God His Goal.
It is only when Christ releases His life that we can be those who are conformed to the Image of the Son. Outside of that we have no other way.

Great Q
This sister.. is why our Lord died for us. He knew He would die and faced death head-on because He saw eternity in mind when He did it. He took us with Him to the cross, we died and rose with Him to walk in newness of Life.

In Christ
sandy
