Like great-great-great-grandfather, like that. I have some Greek ancestors, and I wanna find out how many greats are in their name.

This can be figured out for ANY number of generations.

Working backwards, there are but two generations that ARE NOT "greats"....

your parents, your grandparents

That's 2! Total, no matter how many generations you go back, it will always be just 2.

So 10 generations back, it would be 10-2 = 8 greats.
20 generations...20-2 = 18 greats.
86 generations...86-2 = 84 greats
100 generations...100-2 - 98 greats.
43,426,556 generations = 43,426,556=2 = 43,426,554 greats

Steph is right. You would have 97 generations counting backwards from yourself. You're 100, parents 99, grandparents 98, greats start at 97...

If you start with you as generation 1, your parents are 2, grandparents are 3, great-grandparents are 4, so you'd have 96 great-great-great---- generations. Good luck in finding them all. My aunts once told me they could trace our family back to Adam and Eve, but couldn't find the marriage certificate. LOL (however, I DID see the one they made up for my cousin David. It had about 40 generations or thereabouts, and went back to the Bible's Abraham.)

Howdy!!! Darth,

Even at my age I have no idea. I keyed up on Texas and it got me started on the same thing, like what is my family tree; my Mother and Dad are gone now so I really don't have any idea where to start. Good Luck on you investigation.

Stay Safe,

you just count the generations and take away the number you first started with

for you it may be difficult because the greeks are very wary of siths bearing gifts
