No because it is a carnivore eat will eat any kind of bugs but do not add any meat of any kind as this will rot the traps same goes for vegetables, feed it one bug per month.

As a biologist I will tell you that the reason a fly trap eats the fly is to increase proteins they cannot make from the nutrients they get in their natural habitat. They probably don't make the enzymes needed to break down cellulose (a very difficult to digest carbohydrate that all plant cell walls are made of) so the veggie will end up rotting and may cause harm to the fly-trap! I think you should allow your fly trap to be the organism it was born to be and get rid of a few pesky flies for us!! Good luck with your experiments!!

I believe they catch insects because the areas they live in (usually boggy etc.) do not have enough nutrients in the soil. I don't know if feeding only vegetables would provide the same nutrients or whether there would be enough protein, but I'm sure you could try it out, and watch the plant's reaction.

These are probably all good answers, but you and the rest are overlooking the obvious taboo of cannibalism. What self-respecting plant would eat another plant except out of desperation, like the Donner party or those soccer players in the Alive movie?

Nope, they eat bugs. They need the nutrients in bugs not in vegetables.

No. Use little pieces of hamburger instead. I did a little research, and it seems to be the way to go if you don't like seeing the bugs get killed.

Nope. It won't get enough nitrogen. It may not even be able to digest the vegetables.

It needs the protein from animals to live. It will die on vegetable diet.
