A friend of mine has had hers for 4 years now. They are not the rings you often see. Those reject in a few weeks. Hers are like this |_____| They are about 1 1/2 inches long and the ends have screw connections. She normally keeps balls on them and then changes to ring ends screwed in when she wants to lace them. She's got 5 of these on each side of her back.

She is small breasted and rarely wears a bra, so her back is free from tight fitting rubbing.

It took her about 6 months of daily care by her sister to get them to heal. She says it hurt a lot to get them and it seemed like it took forever to heal. During the healing process, she said she experienced discomfort and they hurt and itched off and on. But she stuck with it. They show no sign of rejection.

Of course, if she ever has problems, the will show a very clear scar, especially at each point where they come through the skin. We've talked about what she would do if they ever rejected. Her answer is she would get them repierced in a heartbeat. She loves them as much as her 5/8 inch stretched lobes.

She finds, even today, she has to constantly think about being careful of her back. Every time she sits down and leans back, she doesn't want to rub her back back and forth on the chair, out of concern that she might pull a piercing. We've talked about this, she says she likes having to take the extra care. It's just like her ears, she says. Or, just like when she is wearing high heels. You have to take care for beauty's sake. And, it is well worth it!

I've put my arm around her back and held her wearing a backless top. My hands have been all over her piercings and we've played with them. Since they are well healed, there's no problem. I find them very beautiful and very sexy, they turn me on, and I know she does too.

BTW she is in a professional occupation.

As for surface piercings on your stomach, they would be much the same style if you want to keep them. You can put one above or below your navel. Or, you can have them diagonal on each side, down closer to your hips. I've seen photos of women with 2 or 3 on each side. Very sweet looking. Very sexy.

Recognize with stomach surface piercings when you get preganent, you will almost certainly have to remove them. If you want them afterwards, you would have to have them repierced. They won't go directly in the scar tissue that will result from the first piercings. But, that goes with the territory.

For a more radical stomach piercing, I've seen photos of an experimental piercing, a woman having a 10" long tygon piercing all across her lower stomach. It takes a lot to take my breath away, but that one did. Don't know if she kept it. It was done for a show. It took a couple of minutes for it to be worked through the length. She was wincing in pain through the whole thing and was grasping the arms of the chair she was sitting in as hard as she could. She indicated later on it was an extremely painful ordeal, she was totally exhausted after it, and it was harder than she thought it would be to do. But she loved it and was glad she had agreed to "put her body on the line" for this experiment; to be the piercer's "demonstration model" it was done to, in front of a crowd. I would think it would truly limit her ability to move, if she kept it. Must have been done by a very experienced artist, to keep it a surface, and not to impale any internal organs.

I think these would be beautiful and sexy additions to you. Let me know what you decide upon and what you think after you get them.

sadly, surface piercings are very hard to heal, especially on a surface like the back or stomach that moves and bends a LOT.

That being said, it is not impossible, as long as you go to a really good piercer that has had success in the past with these piercings.

Do a LOT of research and find out what the best piercing method is and how to take care of the piercings afterwards for the best success rate.

Also, be aware of single point piercings. These have a much higher success rate for healing, however they are more difficult to remove if the need ever arises.

www.bmezine.com is a great site to go to to read up on different methods and read other peoples experiences.

I haven't done it yet, but I will be getting a full back corset for my wedding.

All I can tell you is that if you want it to be permanent, get over it.
All surface piercings are meant to be temporary, yes there are some cases where they last for a while, I've seen year old corsets, but that rarely happens.

They are neat looking, I'll admit. However, I don't know of anyone who's gotten them to keep for more than a month or two, including that whole friend-of-a-friend lot. (I'm not counting the record-holder types. They're a whole different lot.)

The sad truth of them is that they are just about the most disfiguring types of piercings one can get, over a broad area. They stretch, scar, get caught in everything, and are even more prone to infection, if done all at once, than genital piercings. Even if you are diligent enough to avoid any infection, they tend to degrade very quickly. Within a short time, they look sagged and pathetic.

Cool as they look at first, do not get them.

lots of good answers here... surface piercings are difficult to heal, they usually migrate out very easily. also watch what you do if you get them, cause it will hurt a lot of u get ur back caught on something... and be careful when taking shirts on and off...i have my nipples done and when i first got them shirts sucked..because they would always get caught... don't tie the string too tight either, this would increase the chances of them migrating out.
