I wanna go to Times Square for new years but I'm gonna be in Newark so I was wondering if the train ran that day.

When they say this is the city that never sleeps, they mean it. On many holidays, especially with special events, the city's mass transit systems will actually ADD service, not shut it down.

NJ Transit runs on a normal weekday schedule on December 31. This is not a "holiday" for them. Trains, on the regular schedule, come anywhere between about five and about 30 minutes apart. On January 1st, NJ Transit trains run on a Sunday schedule.

Your best bet is to go to the NJ Transit website, go to the "Schedules & Fares" section, and get the info yourself so you can see the exact schedules. Remember, they might change things up a bit because of the sheer volume of people using the system that night, but they'll be running trains. Believe me.

Enjoy the party!

Yes and remember to purchase round-trip tickets in advance to avoid potentially long lines at Ticket Vending Machines.
